The sunset casts golden beams down upon the mountainside and paints the sky beautiful hues of orange and red. It would a lovely to watch from the comfort and safety of your home. Unfortunately, there's a mountain between you and your cottage on the lake. To make matters worse, your shield broke earlier and your sword is on it's last leg.

Monsters haven't come out yet, but they will be soon. On the other end of the horizon you can see the first stars of night. Usually you'd dig a hole and stick out the night. But after a bad run in with a creeper you lost your extra food reserves. Now you won't have the energy to get home if you wait for sunrise. So there's only one thing you can do, run for your life.

You take off towards your home, sword in hand, eyes trained forward. The more ground you can cover before the attacks begin the better. You glance over to see the sun dip under the horizon, taking with it the last bit of light and safety. Almost immediately you hear the telltale sounds of zombies groaning and spiders hissing. You don't look back or slow down.

An arrow whizzes past your head, burrowing into a nearby tree. You suck in a breath and push forward, zig zagging around trees to try to throw the monsters off your trail. Suddenly a spider drops from a tree onto of you. You hit the ground and roll onto your back to push it off as it spits venom at you.

"Where the hell did you come from!?" You shout as you slash at the angry spider. Then you hear the scream of an agitated enderman in the trees above. You stab the spider then dash off again, "word to the wise, don't mess with the enderman,"

Your advice didn't do the dead spider much good, and slowing down for it didn't help you at all. More monsters close in on you and you can only hope the enderman won't be joining them in their chase to kill you. You're grateful for your armor, the spider only managed to get one hit in on you. The venom stings but you'll take care of it later. Survival is top priority now.

A zombie runs at you to the right and you swing your sword as you run. It pushes him back but he keeps fighting. He's wearing old enchanted armor. "Nope, not worth it!" You shout and decide to just run. You can see a break in the trees and push forward. That's when the earth runs out. You spin your arms to prevent falling off the steep cliff.

Somehow during the chase you got off course and ended up north of your home and over the ravine. You glance over to where the drop is gentler, but the sound of monsters catches your attention. They're closing in on you and cutting off every exit. Every exit except one.

You swallow the lump in your throat as you look between the valley and the approaching monsters. An arrow hits your chest plate knocking you back and the ground crumbles under your weight but doesn't fall through yet. A skeleton gets too close and you make quick work of smashing him to bits. More monsters charge forward and you fight valiantly. But you're overpowered by the hoard. You're running out of energy and health. You'll die before the sun comes up to help with the monsters. You kill another spider when your sword breaks leaving you nearly defenceless. The monsters seem to notice this and all charge forward.

"Please let there be water," you pray as you jump backwards. The wind whips through your hair as you free fall. The sound almost drowns out the monsters shouting at your escape. You hear the enderman screech rise above the whistle of wind and all the other monsters.

You pinch your eyes shut as you crash into a shallow river. It's not much but you're not dead yet. The sun is rising and you feel a spark of hope. Unfortunately, when you try to stand a shooting pain through your leg stops you. You let out an anguished scream as you pull yourself out of the river. You look down to see your ankle twisted unnaturally and your knees and shins covered in scrapes.

Suddenly, small purple specks float around the air above you like a snow globe. You glance up to see the enderman from before looking down the valley. He tilts his head to the side and makes a distressed sound. His purple eyes seem to track even the smallest movement you make. You look down after a few seconds. At least he doesn't seem mad at you. You sniffle as tears keep steaming down your cheeks.

Then, if things couldn't get any worse you hear a hiss. A creeper. "Please, help me!" You shout as you try to run but your leg makes you stumble and fall. You don't have enough life left to survive a creeper blast. The hiss gets louder and you hold your bloody hands out as a shield.

Then someone, or something, grabs you. Incredibly long arms wrap around your waist and pull you close. More purple specks float around and you feel the creature behind you rumble angrily. Somehow you know the enderman isn't here to attack you, and those upset noises aren't aimed at you either. You hold on tight to the creatures arms and hope he has a plan. Then there's an explosion, but no heat or pain, just the feeling of being pulled back so quickly you lose conciousness.

You wake up in your bed, sore, tired, and with no idea of how you got there. You look down to see a bandage around your leg. The wrapping isn't perfect, but it's clear whoever did it tried very hard. There are strange herbs you don't recognize in the wrap. You slowly sit up, wincing but grateful to be alive.

Last you remember, a creeper was about to blow you up. Then an enderman grabbed you. Speaking of which, a sound at the door makes you jolt. You hear the familiar sound of an enderman and look over to see one at your door, about to leave. That's when it all clicks into place.

"Wait! Don't go," you reach out and try to stand up to walk to him. You bite back a pained noise but he hears it perfectly. The enderman teleports and for a moment you fear you scared him off. Then he's right in front of you, pushing you back onto the bed and pulling the red blanket up. However, he's clearly not angry at you. You lean back onto the pillow and speak softer, "you saved me,"

The enderman slowly blinks and makes a noise that sounds content. You wish you could understand him. Maybe with a proper potion you could. But for now it's clear he wants you to stay in bed.

"Thank you," you whisper while stealing quick glances at your savior. The enderman leans closer and you can almost feel the vibrations of his vocalizations. "I wish I could repay you,"

The enderman nods then leans down, bumping his head against yours. Then you feel lips form and kiss your forehead. They retract almost as quickly as they formed. You don't need a mirror to know you're blushing. Then the enderman disappears. You reach out as ender particles float around where he used to be. You can only hope he'll come back. But something tells you he will as you look down to see a single dirt block with a flower growing out of it.
