Another week has passed and while you haven't healed perfectly, you've started tending to your farm again. On days where there's no farm work you've finally started feeling well enough to collect wood. Mining is still mostly at a stand still, but you've got enough coal to last months. Like always, your enderman friend has been visiting and watching over you. However, he's started to linger longer and come more frequently, even when there isn't a real reason to.

As you wander a nearby acacia forest collecting logs, you find yourself thinking about the enderman. Mostly, you spend your time pondering how you might communicate with the enderman and if he might have a name. You haven't found any sort of translation potion recipes on any of your trips into villages, so you decide to try the next best thing. Since the enderman seems to understand you, maybe he could talk through a note book and quill?

You elect to bind a few pages with leather when you get home to make a journal for the enderman. Even if it turns out he can't use it you're sure he'll appreciate the gesture. You've done your best to let the enderman know how grateful you are, but after all the little gifts he's left you, not to mention how he saved your life, you'd like to do something special for him.

You can't help but chuckle to yourself. If someone had told you a month ago how one enderman would save your life and change it so much, you probably would have called them crazy, or at least thought it. Now it is simply a fact of life, and a pleasant one at that. There is bit of pride in it too, having someone to be close with. Sure the villagers have each other and their iron gollums, but you're more than happy with what you have.

As you collect more sugarcane to make paper, the sun is overtaken by a dark cloud. Despite it being the middle of the day the sky begins to darken. You've seen this before, you know what's coming. Immediately you start to run, your home isn't far, you can make it back in time if you hurry. If all else fails you can dig a hole and wait it out since unlike last time you packed lots of extra food.

The first few raindrops start to fall as you reach your house. The thunder and lightning is yet to come, you're safe. You slam your door behind you and reach for the nearest towel to dry yourself off. You head over to your furnace and start cooking some steak to eat, but also to warm up the house. Just as you sit down and relax the rain picks up along with the wind. Then, an ear piercing screech rings through the air. It's the sound of an enderman, and you know just which one it is.

Without so much as a second thought you grab the closest thing to an umbrella, in your case your shield, and hold it over your head. Then you throw open the door of your home and follow the sound of an upset enderman. The rain is cold and pelts down near painfully. However, as unpleasant as it is, you know the enderman is fairing far worse.

A zombie rushes towards you, and you brandish a diamond sword. You take him down in two quick slashes, barely slowing down in your pursuit of your enderman. You tuck your sword back into your belt and pick up the pace, ignoring your throbbing ankle. The screaming is louder now, you know you must be close. A skeleton's arrow pierces your armor and you pull out your bow to swiftly return the favor with two spectral arrows. Your time on bed rest has truly given you an opportunity to tinker with your weapons.

You break into a new section of wood and that's when you see him. The enderman, frantically teleporting, trying to escape the rain and getting more hurt by the minute, "Over here! Let me help you!" You shout and wave your arms in the air to get his action.

The enderman stops teleporting for a moment, then disappears. He's by your side in an instant, still howling and screeching, but not quite as much. You hand him the shield and he holds it over his head to block the rain. It's not perfect but it's better than nothing. "Come on, let's go home!" You shout over the thunder then take off running towards your house.

You look back often to see if the enderman is keeping up, and thankfully he is. You know the storm has weakened him significantly. A far teleportation might not be possible, especially for two. So you'll lead the way and try to get him as close to your house as possible. You strap your bow to your back and brandish your sword as you run, you don't want to slow down to fight but if you must, so be it.

"We're almost back, you're going to be ok!" You encourage the enderman, glancing back to see them still right behind you. When you turn back you almost run headlong into a witch. She throws a potion at you which you barely deflect with your sword. It splashes back on her and you manage to get a slash from your sword in. But she's strong, and makes another attack.

"Take my compass, get to safety!" You toss the enderman your compass. In the storm it's the most reliable way to find home. The enderman looks conflicted, he clearly doesn't want to leave you, "I'll be fine, go!"

He turns and is off, leaving you to face off with the witch. She hurls more potions at you, some hit and damage your armor, others miss, and some sting and burn your skin. Yet, three slashes later she finally falls. Lighting illuminates the woods and before the thunder can clap you're back to running home. Two zombies and one spider later and it's in sight. Your previously injured leg is killing you, clearly it wasn't ready for this level of strain and really, neither was any other part of you.

As you run up your stairs the door is opened by the enderman. You throw yourself inside and he closes the door behind you. You scramble to your feet and hobble over to the enderman, "are you alright? Sit down I'll get you a healing potion!" You grab one of your chairs for him as well as a towel and a big red blanket to wrap up in.

You check your chests for some healing potions. You used most of yours while you were in the early healing stages, but there's one left at the bottom of an old chest and ingredients to make more at your brew stand. You bring the potion over to the enderman who's still shaking. "Here, this will help,"

The enderman eyes the bottle suspiciously. He looks back up at you from his chair, then takes the bottle and drinks it. Once the bottle is empty he sets it aside. A moment later he stops shaking quite so much. He makes a noise that almost sounds like the words "thank you" as he hugs the blanket closer to himself.

"I'm always happy to help. I'm just glad you're alright now," you pull a chair up next to his. Before you sit down you add a couple more lumps of coal to the furnace. Then you sit down and relax.

The enderman pulls you over and wraps the blanket around the both of you. He rests his head on top of yours and encircles your waist with long arms. The thunder rolls outside and he holds onto you tighter, grumbling unhappily.

"You could sleep through it if you'd like," you offer but he shakes his head, ruffling your hair in the process. It seems he's too agitated to sleep, and to be honest you don't blame him, "then how about we do something to distract ourselves from the storm? I made you something,"

The enderman let's go of you so you can rifle through another chest to retrieve the notebook and quill you made. You dyed the leather of the book purple too, it seemed like a nice touch. You turn back to see the enderman has closed his eyes, waiting for you to say to open them. You place the book in his lap and he opens his eyes. His eyes light up as he runs a hand over the binding of the book. He flips through all the pages then picks up the quill and turns it over in his hand a few times.

"I hope you like it," you smile, leaning down to offer him some ink to write or draw with. When you're eye level with him he leans forward and kisses your forehead. He pulls back then retracts his lips into nothing. You'll take that as an enthusiastic yes.
