Chapter 23: Welcome to the Dark Side

"Everyone's staring at us, "I whispered to Kahoni.
"Well I am the most popular guy in school, I ditched the most popular girl in school to chase after the girl no one knows and then returned with you. And on top of that, we're soaking wet, "Kahoni explained.
"Was there no shorter way to explain that?" I joked.
"No, "he said, "come on I'll get you something to drink."
At first I thought returning to the dance would be a bad idea, but I was glad we did. I couldn't find Lani anywhere but I was happy to be alone with Kahoni.
We danced and laughed and had an all around great time. We didn't care that we were soaked or that everyone was staring at us. We just enjoyed each others company.
It finally hit 11 o'clock, the past hour of the dance. Kahoni and I leaned against the back wall and watched everyone else.
"Kahoni, what are you going to do if Savannah tells everyone your secrets?" I asked.
"I haven't thought about it, "he said.
"What if everyone hates you?" I asked, "I'd hate myself if I did that to you."
"I don't care what happens, as long as I'm with you, "he said, "and no matter what happens none of it is your fault."
We looked at each other and smiled. He leaned toward me and was about to kiss me. But we were distracted by a girl screaming on the dance floor, "You are such an imbecile!" I looked over in time to see Lani punch Jace square in the nose.
Lani seemed to realize that everyone was watching her so she smiled and said, "Hope your all enjoying yourselves. Please take notice of the crumpled boy on the floor and stomp on him as much as you can. Thank you."
Lani walked off the dance floor as a ton of girls ran on to stomp on Jace.
Lani waked up to us and said, "What's up?"
"You say that like you punch guys everyday, "Kahoni said.
"How do you know she doesn't?" I said.
"Yeah Pretty Boy, you know nothing about me, "Lani said. Kahoni looked slightly scared. "I'm just messing with you, "she said, "but you better not hurt my best friend or I'll hit you so hard my hand will be the source of your nightmares for weeks."
"Um ok, "he said, looking fully terrified.
"Way to go Lani, you broke my date, "I joked.
"My apologies, "she said, "I'm sure he's fine, right Pretty Boy?" She went to pat his shoulder and he flinched, jokingly.
Once we all stopped laughing I asked Lani, "So what exactly happened?"
"Well you see Abbie saw Jace flirting with another girl so she left him. Then he came over and asked to dance with me. That's when I called him an imbecile and punched him and stuff, "she said.
"The fact that your voice is so casual makes it that much more funny, "Kahoni said.
Lani, Kahoni, and I spent the rest of the hour together. When we were kicked out of the building at midnight Lani took the road home while Kahoni and I walked the beach.
We didn't talk about anything serious. For the fifteen minutes it took us to get to my house we were just normal teenagers enjoying a fun night.
But when we got back on the normal road the problems began. A group of boys ran up and threw cans at Kahoni and me.
"You two have fun, "one boy said, "and Kahoni, better start watching your back."
The boys ran off. "I'm sorry about that, "I said.
"It's not your fault, "Kahoni said, "I'm happy with my decision."
"Well then, welcome to the dark side, "I said.
We walked up my driveway and stopped short of the porch. I couldn't believe my eyes. Kyle and Savannah were kissing!
I cleared my throat loudly and they looked over at us.
"Beat it brat, "Kyle said.
"It's fine darling, "Savannah said, "I should be going anyway." She stepped off the porch by and said to me, "I'm sorry I was so mean to you, as your brother's girlfriend I guess I'll have to be a little kinder to you. But I still hate you."
She strutted down the driveway as Kyle went back inside. "Well at least now I know how she was finding out all those about me, "I said, "Kyle told her."
"Don't worry about that now, "Kahoni said. He leaned forward and kissed me again. "Good night, "he said.
"Good night, "I responded. I watched him walk away before entering my house. My mother screamed at me for leaving without telling her, but the entire time I smiled.
