Chapter 25: Goodbye

"You have to keep me updated on everything!"Lani yelled. We got a lot of stares seeing as we were in the middle of the airport.
"Lani could you be a little quieter?" I said, "We are in the airport after all."
"I don't care, "she said.
"Of course you don't, "I said.
"Just tell me everything that happens, "she said, "I mean can you believe it? My best friend is Brendan Jones daughter!"
"Be quiet, "I said, "Brendan doesn't want too many people to know right now."
"Oh fine, "she said.
"Lani, let's go!" Ms. Kekoa shouted from the gate entrance.
"I'm going to miss you so much, "she said. I could she wanted to hug me so I nodded and she squeezed me tightly.
"I'll miss you too, "I said.
"I'll see you in a few months, "she said, "try not to forget us little people Danny Jones."
"Actually I'm keeping my last name for right now, "I said awkwardly.
"Ok, then I'll see you soon Danny Mahonny, "she said. I watched her as she walked to her grandmother and through the gate.
"You know that's going to be you next week, "Brendan said behind me.
"You think anyone's going to miss me like I miss her?" I asked.
"I know so, "he said. He put his arm around my shoulders and we walked out together.

"I can't believe your leaving me, "Kahoni said.
"Your going to Europe!" I shouted.
"Yeah but not for another two weeks, "he said, "therefore you have to stay here for two weeks."
"You wish the world worked that way, "I said.
Kahoni and I had spent a lot of time together since Lani left. I put my head on his shoulder as we sat on the beach and watched the sunset.
"I am going to miss, you know that don't you?" I said.
"Of course I do, "he said, "but we'll see each in August."
"That's like in forever, "I whined.
"That's in three months, "he said.
"Same difference, "I said. He smiled and kissed me.
"Just three months, "he said, "and the day you get back we'll go surfing until sunset."
"I'd like that, "I said.
We sat in the sand until the sun disappeared beneath the waves.
"We should go before it gets dark, "he said. He helped me up and we walked back to my house, hand in hand. By the time we got back to my house the stars were out and people had their porch lights on.
"You want to sit for second?" I asked.
"Sure why not?" he said. We sat on my porch swing. He put his arm around my shoulders and I rested my head on his shoulder. We sat in silence for a few minutes just enjoying each others company.
He looked down at me. "I really am going to miss you, "he said. He kissed me before I could even respond. It was blissful but it almost felt like a goodbye. Naturally I was suspicious but at that moment I just enjoyed the peace.
Our kissing session was cut short when my front door opened.
"I'll miss you honey bear, "Savannah said to my brother.
"I'll see you tomorrow pookie, "he said. He leaned down and kissed her as Kahoni and I tried to hide our laughter.
Savannah must have heard us because she looked over at us. "Oh I didn't even see you two there, "she said, "hi Kahoni, Danny."
"Hey, "we said in unison.
"You two have been spending a lot of time together, "she said.
"So have you two, "Kahoni said.
"Yeah, I guess we both found who we were looking for, "she said. They seemed to have a silent conversation, then Savannah said, "Well I have to go, I'll see you around, and I'll see you tomorrow honey bear."
She did her half walk half hop cheerleader walk down the driveway and for the first time, it didn't annoy me. Maybe, just maybe, we could live in peace.
"Hey creep, "Kyle said, "when your done out here mom wants to talk to us."
"All right, "I said. He went back inside, leaving Kahoni and I alone. "You'll help me pack next week won't you?" I asked.
"Of course, "he said. He leaned down and kissed me again. "You should get inside before your mom gets mad, "he said, "I'll see you tomorrow."
I watched him walk down the driveway before entering my house. I found everyone in the kitchen.
"What's up?" I asked.
"I have an announcement, "my mother said.
I stood there and waited for her to talk. "Well are you going to have a seat or not?"she snapped.
"Oh, ok, "I said. I sat down quickly and she looked satisfied.
"I am going on a trip, "she said.
In my favorite rocket ship, I thought. I loved the Little Einsteins theme song too much.
"Where to?" Kyle asked.
"Are we coming?" Hallie gasped eagerly.
"No you are not coming, "my mother said, "I am going to Las Vegas and I do not want any kids with me."
"Hallie's 18, "I said, "technically a legal adult."
"Don't sass me, "she said, "you three will be packing my bags for me. I leave Saturday so you better do it fast."
And that concluded our delightful family meeting. I figured I would be the one packing for her so I began to look for a bag.
"Hey, "Kyle said.
"Hey, "I said.
"Look, we can go that tomorrow, "he said, "let's just relax right now."
"Your going to help me?" I asked, astonished.
"You sound shocked, "he said.
"You've never helped me before, "I said.
"Danny, I'm sorry for all that I did to you, "he said, "especially that stuff with Savannah. I just..I really like her and she said she would go out with me if I got her some dirt on you. And you know, I wanted to be mom's favorite, who doesn't? Do you think you could forgive me?"
"Are you never going to do anything like this again?" I asked.
"I promise I won't, "he said.
"Then you are forgiven, you are my brother after all, "I said.
"Thanks Danielle, "he said pointedly, to show he got my name right.
"No problem, honey bear, "I joked.
"Oh no, "he said.
"Better go call your pookie, "I said.
"That's it, "he said. He hugged me and squeezed me as hard as he could. It was slightly painful, but enjoyable. Afterall, it was our first hug since we were kids.

Hey guys, I'm so glad your liking this book!! I mean 900+ views!! You have no idea how happy that makes me. Sadly though this book does have to come to an end eventually. Danny has her happy ending and all that gooey romantic stuff. Anyway I had an idea, since you guys love this book so much I thought I might make a prequel.
