Ana's eyes flickered open. She scanned her surroundings, confused for a second. Then she remembered the events of earlier. The girl groaned and sat up on the bed. The room pretty bare but the nicest cell she'd ever been in. There was a private section acting as a bathroom, with a toilet, sink and shower. The bed wasn't amazing but still comfortable and raised from the ground. On the back wall was a window that had a view of a Wakandan plain. Instead of bars, keeping her inside the cell was a blue force field.
The girl looked at her wrists. To her surprise, she wasn't wearing power dampening cuffs. But she knew that the Wakandan's weren't stupid enough to let her have her powers so she assumed that the technology was engrained into the whole room.
Hours passed since Ana woke up and no one had come to visit her. Strange. That must mean they're planning something.
'Ugh and if Stark is here then it won't be anything good.' she thought and rolled her eyes.
The sun began to set over the grass. Still, no one had come down to see her. Ana laid bored on her bed. Thoughts about almost killing Tony rippled through her brain.
'If I wasn't so adamant on watching him struggle against death then he would be 6-feet under right now and not scheming upstairs.'
Just as she was finished mentally beating herself up, Ana heard a pair of footsteps approaching. The girl sat up in bed expecting to see one of the Avengers. Instead, two of the Dora Milaje came to her cell. One of them was carrying a tray of food and the other a spear. The one with the spear tapped one of the beads on her bracelet and a small slot opened in the force field. The tray of food was posted through and laid on the floor. The hole closed again and the pair waited for her to pick it up. Ana did so and they left.
She walked over and sat back down on the bed. The girl removed the cloche from the tray to reveal her food. There were a few pieces of lamb accompanied by jollof rice, a bread roll and plantain. Stuck to the top of the cloche was a brown paper bag. Ana peeled it off and opened it up. Inside were three akara and a note that read: 'сегодня был красивый закат -Alexei' (it was a beautiful sunset tonight)
Ana smiled and tucked into the food. It was good, nothing like Project Enlightenment would've fed her.
------------------------------------------------
Bang, bang, bang. Someone pounded on the steel door of the cell. Ana got on her knees and put her hands on her head quickly. A guard opened the door and put a tray of food on her floor before shutting it again. Ana heard the door lock before getting up to collect her meal. She picked up the tray and took it over to her bed. The small girl shuffled the sheets onto one side of the thin mattress and sat on the other side.
The tray consisted of a stale piece of bread, a bowl of porridge that had already gone cold and a few pieces of chicken. Ana ripped the meal apart within seconds. Due to her failure on her mission last week, Ana hadn't been fed. However, she had another mission in America tomorrow so she had to eat. Once she was done, she placed the plastic tray next to the door for collection and got into bed.
When she awoke the next day, she changed into her mission suit. The small girl pulled the white leather fabric over her body and waited for her meal. When she heard the guard knock on the door, Ana got on the floor and waited. Once it was safe she too her food. The same meal laid on the tray. Ana ate it slowly.
She was halfway through the bowl of porridge when her head became clouded. Meals before missions were always drugged to ensure that each assassin could be taken securely out of the facility. Her head dropped and Ana's body slumped against the wall.
-------------------------------------------
It was light when Ana awoke in her Wakandan cell. She rose from the bed and yawned. When she looked to the door, she saw Natasha standing there.
"Were you watching me sleep?" Ana asked with a laugh.
Natasha didn't respond.
Ana shook her head, "Because that's kind of creepy if you were."
Natasha took a step closer to the force field and crossed her arms.
"You think this is funny?" the woman scoffed.
Ana shrugged, "I've got to keep myself entertained in here somehow."
"And whose fault is it that you're in here in then?" Nat looked at her accusingly.
Ana laughed and stared at her sister, "You're on their side, aren't you?"
"And what side is that?" Natasha asked.
The girl rolled her eyes, "You think it's okay for me to be in here."
Natasha shook her head, "You tried to kill Tony, Ana. Of course you should be in here."
"Oh so are we just forgetting that the Avengers haven't killed a bunch of people?" Ana said accusingly.
Natasha took another step closer, "Yes people died when we were trying to save the majority. That's different from revenge killing."
"God, Natasha! Most of the team is made up of ex-assassins! Or did you forget that you used to work for the Red Room?" Ana yelled.
"I was made to kill people, I didn't do it just because I was bored!" Natasha shouted back.
Ana scoffed and took a step back, "You think I wanted to kill Stark because I was bored?"
Natasha shook her head but before she could answer Ana cut her off.
"I tried to kill him because he traded me. He thought that Peter's life was worth more than mine. How can you stand by and let him get away with that?" Ana said through tears.
Natasha looked down, "Ana, I didn't just stand by. I-"
"DON'T LIE TO ME!" Ana screamed at the woman.
The girl broke down, "He's sitting up there talking to everyone like nothing ever happened. No one's holding him accountable for what he did to me just because everyone is safe and alive. I'm in this cell while he's living it up. If it was anyone else in my situation then they would've been forgiven by now. But no, just because I'm not 'one of the gang' I have to sit down here all alone."
The gravity of what Ana was feeling hit Natasha. What had she done?
