So somehow a miracle happened. I wrote a sequel. What???? To be honest, I am not a huge fan of sequels and series'. You read that right, and I know that's not exactly popular opinion. What I like is a well told story. My viewing preferences are the same. What's my favorite type of show to watch? A mini-series. There is something so incredibly gratifying for me about a story that focuses on what it has to tell and leaves it at that, not stretching it into something else simply because the characters are all established and there's some plot to work with. Don't get me wrong, there are many exceptions to this, and like I said, I know I'm in the minority. But, dang, do I love a well told story that is left alone.
Not that Starting Position is this amazing, well-told story, but you may be wondering: why did I write a sequel if I don't care for them? Good question. I wasn't going to. I really, really wasn't. But the seed was planted in my ear (you know who you are) and it grew and grew and grew. Ben had a story to tell, and by golly, I had to tell it. To me, that is the joy of writing, that feeling of desperately needing to tell a story that just won't seem to stop growing and overtaking everything. I know some of you reading this have felt similar. That is why I wrote Superposition.
I know it was different, and maybe it wasn't what you expected. Maybe you didn't even like it, and if I somehow took away or defected Starting Position for you, I am truly sorry. That is another thing I dislike about sequels. But I do hope that isn't the case and that you enjoyed it. Ben is such an amazing character, and I love writing him. And I hoped you liked being inside his head for a little while.
Anyway, I won't go on and on, but I do want to thank each and every one of you who is reading this for supporting me. I can't say it enough. Thank you. Starting Position made the Wattys Shortlist this year and I am still beside myself with shock/excitement/pride and it wouldn't have been possible without everyone's love and encouragement.
I really do hope you enjoyed reading Superposition, and that you are leaving this page satisfied with how Ben and Elliot's story ended. Take care, everyone! <3
