I wake up, as usual. I was feeling, somewhat ok. I stepped out of the blankets as I feel myself shiver. I walk to the kitchen, half awake and half still sleeping. 7:30, my phone says. I notice that Mom's not home. Instead River is sitting there watching tv.

"Hey River, where's Mom?" I ask them.

"At work," they respond while staring into the tv.

I walk to the kitchen to pour some cereal. I open the fridge as I feel the cold rush right into my face. I grab the jug of milk and poured it into the bowl.

I carry the bowl to the living room gingerly. I set it on the coffee table as I look up and see Saiki K playing on the tv.

"Ah, so your watching Saiki K," I say as I look up at River.

"Yes," they said.

I turn and continue watching it with River. Once my cereal was finished I went to the kitchen to see lunch made up for all four of us.

"How did I not notice that Mom made us lunch," I tell myself as I see 4 different piles of food. I went over the the bathroom, brushed my teeth and washed my face, 7:45, my phone said. We have to leave at 8:15 in order to make it to the school in time for 8:30.

I head to my bedroom to pick out my outfit. Something nice looking today and warm. Another thing crossed my mind when thinking about what to wear, will Mia like it. I've never thought that way before, I've never thought about if someone would like my outfit except for this time. I decided to go with a plaid flannel, white shirt and blue mom jeans, I walk to my jewelry box to pick out my jewlery.

8:00, my phone said, I had 15 minutes until we had to leave. I walk out of my room to see Ashton packing his lunch, River all ready and Matthew also ready. I still need to pack up.

8:15, we step into the chilly fall weather and lock the door. I felt fear, nervous, like my stomach was turning but also excited. I see a discord notification, it was from Mia.

Mia

"hey, you want meet up in front of the school before class"

Amelia

"sure"

I smile as I texted her, I've never felt this way for anyone. River glared at my smile.

"So, who are you texting," River said.

"Oh, uh, no one," I said.

"Mhm, ok," River teased me.

I didn't say anything, I wasn't ready to tell them, at least at this point.

We head to the school, another chilly fall morning. The breeze was amazing and I felt like I was on top of the world. The past day has just been a rollercoaster of emotions.

I got to the high school and saw Mia standing there in front on the school, exactly where she said she would.

"Hey, Amelia!" Mia said waving at me.

I was extremely nervous. I could feel my palms sweating and legs trembling. Why was I this nervous? I've never felt this nervous for anyone ever.

"Hey," I said waving back to Mia. "Do you meet with friends in the morning?"

"I don't really have any friends, none of my friends came to this school from middle school," she said.

"Oh, well do you want to come with me and meet my friends?" I said.

"Sure" Mia said

We opened the school doors as I saw my group of friends standing there.

"Hey, who's this?" my best friend Sage said.

"Guys, this is Mia, I met her at Starbucks yesterday and was studying a test with her," I said.

Mia waved shy like and seemed very nervous. I really wanted to make her feel safe, but didn't know how to.

"Mia, this is Sage and they use they/them pronouns, this is Kai and he uses he/they pronouns and this is Lyla and she uses she/her  pronouns," I said to Mia introducing her to all of them.

"Anyways....," Sage continued saying something I had no interest in and obviously continuing a sentence they were saying earlier. My eyes were looking at Mia though. I still couldn't get over her blue eyes and light hair. She turned to me. I could feel my face heat up and could feel myself sweating as I turn away not looking at her anymore.

"RINGGGG". That was the bell for first period class, I head to my locker and got my stuff for class. I felt so lucky that we didn't have to share lockers with people, I couldn't imagine trying to two people's stuff in a locker.

Like that, it was lunch. We have a place we sit at outside where we always eat lunch. There is also a cafeteria but its always busy and packed. I saw the 3 others sitting there starting to eat lunch. I walked to where they were eating and sat down. The only thing on my mind was if Mia would ask where were sitting or if she would find us or what she was doing for lunch.

"Hey, how has your day been so far," Lyla asks me.

"It's been good," I said.

From the corner of my eye I saw Mia outside walking around. I waved to her and signaled her to come over.

"So Amelia, what's up about Mia, like suddenly your so focused on her instead of us," Kai said.

"Oh, nothing, like I said, I met her at the Starbucks the other day. I thought it would be nice if we could become friends with her, she doesn't really have any friends," I said. The truth was, I was so focused on her because she was different from everyone else, she was special, she stood out to me.

Mia came and sat down right next to me.

"Hey everyone," Mia said.

Everyone smiled back at her and waved.

Lunch went by really fast, we all got to know Mia and talked about our interests.

I felt really cold, it was a chilly day. Of course my dumbass forgot a hoodie at home so I had none. Mia must have heard my shivering. "You cold?" Mia asked. I nodded. "Well, this might help," Mia said as she wrapped her hoodie around me. I could see everyone else smiling. I wasn't focused on them though. I was focused on the fact this was her hoodie, this was Mia's.

The lunch was over like that, next period was bio, the class I have with Mia. Lucky me, the teachers let us choose where we want to sit and we could sit where ever we would like. I walked into bio class and saw Mia and sat right next to her.

"I like your hoodie," Mia said, jokingly.

I giggled and smiled at her.  I looked into her eyes. Still beautiful as always, she's really pretty. Just being in her presence felt good and being next to her.

Bio went by really fast. I had one last class, art. Art class went by fast and like that, it was the end of the day. I walked home by myself. I thought about my day and smiled. Today was a special day, I loved it.
