Chapter 1: Promise.

"And she's got everything that I have to live without."

━━━━━━♡♥♡━━━━━━

As May opens the door to her own coffee shop, the sound of wind chimes fills the room. She was greeted by the aroma of coffee, freshly baked pastries, and her sister Celine, who was smiling behind the counter.

"I thought you wouldn't come," Celine said as she approached May. "I mean, isn't it your third wedding anniversary with Harry? I thought you two would spend the rest of the day together."

May can't believe they've been married for three years; they're now twenty-three. It was a roller coaster ride during those years; she didn't think they'd last three years; she thought Harry would file a divorce in a matter of months or even weeks.

"Harry and I never discussed spending the day together," May responds. "He left early, and I don't think it's worth celebrating."

"It's worth celebrating, May!" exclaimed Celine. "Most marriages do not last long, and you two are fortunate to have been married for three years."

"I understand your point, Cel," May replied. "It's just that every time we celebrate it, something bad happens, like there's always a hindrance, remember what happened when Harry and I celebrated our first and second anniversaries?"

Celine nodded. "Maybe this time would be good, you know, three times a charm," she smiles, hoping to cheer up her sister. Though May smiles, Cel remains unconvinced.

May didn't want to remember what happened on their first and second anniversaries because it ended up being a disaster, and she doesn't want it to happen again because she was the one who was greatly affected by it, whereas Harry doesn't care if it ends up being a disaster since he didn't sign up for it, he was only forced.

"So you two don't have anything planned for today?" Celine inquired, and May nodded. "He never promises anything?" May nodded once more.

"We actually didn't talk about our third anniversary," May replied. "But that's okay, I suppose when two people are truly in love, they would take the time to discuss their wedding anniversary plans, and in our case, we don't love each other, this is just an arranged one."

May's heart tightened as soon as she said the word 'arrange,' and she felt something stock on her throat. Even though she is used to hearing that word, it still hurts her every time it escapes her mouth, and it would hurt even more if Harry said it.

Celine smiled sympathetically at her sister, knowing how May feels about their arranged marriage. She was there to console her sister, she was the one May would go to if Harry and her got into a fight, she was her safe haven.

Celine's gaze was drawn to the door as soon as she heard the wind chimes echoing throughout the room. "Speaking of the devil," she says, drawing May's attention to the door, which revealed Harry wearing a button-up polo sleeve that was rolled up to his elbow.

His broad shoulders and arm muscle are visible in the polo he was wearing, and his unruly hair adds to his allure. His emerald eyes met May's brown eyes, and his eyes were enticing enough to make everyone drown at the sight of them.

"May," he said, a raspy tone in his voice.

"Har." May smiled as she greeted him, and he returned the gesture. "The usual?" Harry nodded in response to May's question; he always came here to buy coffee, and he always ordered the same coffee.
