I get out of bed and put on my glasses. I grab one book out of my favorite comic series. The Umbrella Academy. I'm what some people could call a 'book nerd'. Yet I'm popular. I sit back down on my bed, reading the comic. Someone knocks on my door. "Come in!" I call out. My door pops open. My two 11 year old brothers run in. Yeah they're twins, they drive me insane.
"Hayden! Guess what!" Alec screams.
"You're giving me a headache? That's true." I sigh, closing my book.
"Nooo! The Umbrella Academy is being made into a tv show!" Owen yells, even louder than Alec.
"You guys aren't fooling me." If this is true, oh God I'm signing up.
"We're not!" They say in union. "We will forward you the email!"
"Wait really?" I gasp. Owen grabs his phone from his back pocket. A few seconds later my phone buzzes. I grab it from the shelf next to my loft bed. I open it and read the email. "You guys aren't joking."
"Of course we're not." Alec says proudly. I climb off my bed and run over to my brothers. I hug them both.
"Did you just hug us?" They say in disgust.
"Yeah it was weird." I agree. "Now I'm going to get dressed." I push Alec and Owen out, shutting and locking my door behind them.
I walk over to my closet and look at my clothes. I pick out a white cardigan and a light blue skirt. I quickly change, trying not to jump in excitement. I race over to my dresser and I put on some neutral makeup. I put my hair up in two space buns.
My alarm goes off. Shoot, I have school today. I hate Wednesdays.
I look at myself in the mirror. Ginger hair, it's really long when I don't have it up. I'm about 5'5". I'm 16 years old, kind of short for my age. I'm taller than my mum who is 5'4". My brothers are five years younger and are both taller than me. Being short is a gift though, I see joy in sneaking up on my best friends, Pierce and Jean, and scaring them.
I look back at the email. Auditions are tomorrow, IN TORONTO;ONTARIO! I live in Los Angeles! I groan. I'm going to have to wake up early tomorrow.
My second alarm sounds. I slip my shoes on, grab my backpack and comic, and run out of my room. "Sorry I'm late mum." I kiss my mum on the cheek.
"It's okay honey, did the boys tell you?" She asks.
"Yep! Auditions are in Toronto." I say.
"That's a four hour plane ride." She gasps.
"What do I do?" I jump up on the counter.
"I say go for it. I bet you will make friends if you do get the job, you can share a hotel room with them if you're comfortable." Mum smiles, handing me my lunch.
"Thank you, I'll see you after school." I hug her goodbye and run out the door.
It's only a five minute walk to school, not bad. I put my air pods in and listen to some music. I put my phone in my pocket and pull the comic book out of my bag. I only look up to cross the streets, and of course, I walk into someone.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry." I look up at him.
"It's okay, It's my fault anyways, I wasn't paying attention." He apologizes.
"Nor was I." I look into his dark green eyes. He has brown, messy hair. He bends down and picks up my comic.
"You read The Umbrella Academy?" He asks.
"Please don't say you hate it." I take the book from his hands.
"I'm actually a huge fan." He smiles.
"Oh.. sorry for assuming." I rub the back of my neck. I check the time. "I'm going to be late for school, see you around." I run off before he could answer.I walk into school as soon as the first bell rings. I race right to my ela classroom and sit down at my desk. "Hayden." Someone behind me whispers. I turn around. The deep voice is coming from my best friend Pierce.
"What's up?" I ask.
"Have you heard that The Umbrel- '' I stop him short.
"The Umbrella Academy is filming a show? I sure did, I'm going to Toronto tomorrow morning." I smile.
"What character are you going to try out for?" He asks me.
"Eight, she's the best." I say.
"Gotta love Eight. You're going to get the job, I just know it!" Pierce taps me on the shoulder.
"Thanks. I really want to get in." I stress.
"You're going to do great." He gushed. The second bell rings and class starts. After the first five periods, me, Jean, and Pierce planned to meet in the library for free period.
"Hayden, remember watching Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, and Dawn when we were younger?" Jean asks.
"Girl- no." I admit.
"Well, the person who played Nicky Harper is trying out for Five Hargreeves." Jean says.
"Wait, Aidan Gallagher?" Pierce asks.
"The one and only." Jean smiles.
"JEAN IS A SIMP!" I whisper-shout, trying not to distract other students and teachers.
"I am not." She crosses her arms.
"Mhm." I stare at her.
"Well this was fun." Pierce breaks the silence.
"Hayden Kooper." The library monitor calls. "You're getting picked up now."
"Thank you." I say. I didn't know I was.
"Good luck with your audition!" Jean gets up and hugs me.
"You're going to do great." Pierce says, joining the hug.
"Thanks guys." I put my textbook back into my backpack.
"Call us as soon as you get to Toronto." Jean orders.
"Yes ma'am." I laugh. They laugh too. "See you." I wave, leaving the library.I walk out of the building and get in the car. "Nice surprise." I say.
"Sure thing lil sis." My older brother Ethan nods.
"Just bring me home." I laugh. I got the script in an email so I can practice and prefect my lines.
"So you're moving at 16?" He asks. "I'm 19 and I'm not moved out."
"Not quite 'moving' more acting." I clarify.
"I don't follow." He says. I sigh.
"I'm trying to get a job on The Umbrella Academy, so if I get the job then yeah I won't be living at home for a month or so. If I don't then I'll come right home. Make sense?"
"Nope because you're an amazing actor Hayden, you will get it I just know."
"Thanks Ethan." I smile.
