Not Good Enough

It took a while before Ronin found all that he needed. Luckily, Nicole finished what she was doing and helped. He didn't understand how she could find things. It must be a female thing. Making sure everything still fit, he was glad that they didn't need to run into town first. It was out of the way and he wasn't in the mood. Since this small woman somehow talked him into playing without saying more than please.

They got ready and headed to the field. It's the same field that she ended up on when she ran from him. A weird feeling came over her. To know she's going back to the place where it all began. She wondered if she would be able to see this mysterious wall that they were asking about. Honestly, she didn't know how she got through it, just that she did.

After pulling up to park with the other cars, Ronin turned to Nicole. "Okay. I can trust you to stay on the benches while I practice, right?"

Nicole smiled. "I can promise you that every time you look over I'll be there, watching you."

"I don't know if I should be flattered or creeped out." Ronin got out and grabbed his bag.

Nicole followed him out of the car and towards the field. "Flattered. Definitely flattered."

There were already a large group of men lacing up their cleats and stretching. Ronin rounds the bleachers and is greeted with smiles and excitement. It seems as if Lynn had informed the team of Ronin's participation.

"DUDE!!! RONIN!!!! So glad you can step in at the last second!" A large male with blond hair ran up and placed his hand on Ronin's shoulder.

"Yeah..." Ronin brushed the blond guy's hand off. "You're lucky. I needed an excuse to get out of the house."

"Why are you lock up?" The blond guy asked, but saw Nicole and smiled. "OH! I see. The grumpy, people hating, angry man has finally found a woman."

Some of the men and almost all of the women came to see Nicole. They couldn't believe it. Ronin was so anti-people that finding him with a woman was more rare than if he walked up with a unicorn. It was a sight to see. He didn't like that he was a spectacle and that they were staring at Nicole with a bevy of looks.

"Are we going to practice or what?" Ronin slams his shoulder into the blond before walking over to the single bench where the rest of the team's stuff is.

Nicole followed Ronin but was stopped by the blond man. "Hello, beautiful. My name is Conner Grand and what, pray tell, is your name?"

"Nicole Maine..." Nicole gave her last name since he did.

"Well, Nicole Maine, why are you with the perpetual, angry Dark?" Conner asked, flexing a little.

"Dark?" Nicole didn't understand.

Ronin grabbed Nicole's shoulder and steered her away, whispering to her. "That's my last name."

"Aw... come on. Don't be so stingy. I just want to get to know her. I mean, it's not every day the lone wolf has a partner." Conner smirked.

Ronin glared, as his eye flashed his lone wolf. "Shut your mouth."

Ronin moved Nicole to the front of the bleachers and forced her to sit. "Stay here. I'm keeping my eye on you."

"I told you I won't leave." Nicole smiled up at Ronin.

A gust of wind caused Nicole to shake. She had long sleeves and long pants on, but it seemed that the clouds were covering the sun. It ended up being colder than expected. Ronin saw her wrap her arms around herself as another gust hits her.

Ronin pulls off his sweatshirt, exposing some of his tone abs, and tosses it at her. "Watch this for me. I won't need it. Make sure you wear it, I won't be happy if you lose it."
