Her sister could never know what she had done. That was one of the many thoughts in her head, fighting for her undivided attention as she moved through space and matter, spying where it was wrinkled to fit a person until she found another opening to a pocket dimension to jump in.

It wasn't as effective a method of transportation as driving a car or a motorcycle would have been, but even under-the-table dealers kept receipts of purchases and she couldn't risk her name appearing neither on paper, nor on the dark net. She had to remain a ghost, a hushed whisper. It was better that way.

But jumping though matter hoops and pocket dimensions drained her. She was already nearing the limit of her power before she set off to mystic falls, after the first high-paying job had taken a rather messy turn. But gritting her teeth, she kept on.

Minutes after that she was laying on the grass near the interstate, breathing heavily. maybe she should have taken a break when her body had requested one. Burying her face in the sun-strengthened grass, breathing in the damp soil, dark like molasses under the glossy strands, she listened it.

The buzzing of the fireflies, the croaking of the frogs, all those quiet things people never think of, filled her ears. Concentrating a bit more, she heard worms weaving their way to the surface to breathe and dung beetles rolling faeces into round balls. But that's not what she was looking for.

She listened in more closely and finally caught onto it. A faint whirring, the kind that's expected from a machinery working or wings flapping. Exactly what she needed.

She focused, willing the earth power current to approach her, and then seized it, pulling all of the stored in it power for herself. She needed it more than the insects and little animals running around the field.

A low growl from behind her disturbed her focus. She turned around, eyes scanning the forest of entangled old trees. The growl sounded again and she severed the connection between her and the pocket of hoarded power, rising to her feet. There were thing in the forest that even she wouldn't want to disturb.

And she had alerted her presence.

       She needed to go.

       She needed to go
