The water moved around her limbs in swirls, creating buoyancy and a sense of freedom. For the heretic, to swim was to feel the so sought joy and the two would forever be joined in her heart and soul.

She could swim forever, live forever, be here in this underwater world forever. There was something about the motion of it that became natural after a while. She'd always need the air and the sunlight, to feel the saline water wash over her skin and through her eyelashes.

Nathalie made the turn for her thirtieth lane. In the water she had no worries, no witch problems, no past catching up on her, no messed thoughts or reminders that she wasn't mortal anymore—it was just her and the cool water. She moved with robotic precision but organic fluidity, stroke after stroke nailed to perfection.

But even the motion and the cool water couldn't wash away the thought that kept eating her alive from the inside out—that she would live for centuries. Forever was a gift craved until it is won, then it expanded like an ocean without land in sight. And the thought that there would remain only photos and videos to remind her of Bonnie's voice and face, made her stomach twist.

As soon as she left the water, all her restless thoughts slammed back into her skull, demanding to get her attention and to be sorted out.

"Hello, Finn."

"Hello, Niklaus." Finn didn't bother sparing his brother a glance as he continued walking. "I have nothing to say to you."

Klaus walked next to him, letting his hands swing slightly. The hybrid, along with Rebekah, had been looking for him and Esther. "Well, I'm not here to chat. I will ask you one time though, where's our mother?" He questioned the eldest Mikaelson sibling.

"Gone to find another way to end our abominable lives." The Original vampire spoke, no trace of emotion passing his face. "And when she does, I will sacrifice myself all over again."

"Well, how fortunate that I found you. I require your assistance." Klaus replied, his signature smirk resting on his lips.

Finn let a humorless chuckle fall from his lips. "I have no wish to help you. Only to see you dead."

The hybrid rolled his eyes at his eldest brother's antics and a dry laugh of his own slipped from him. "Right, well, that's the thing. You see you won't be able to see me dead, because if I die, then you die. So, wish unfulfilled, I'm afraid."

"Oh, bother someone else with your hollow charms, Niklaus." The eldest Mikaelson grumbled as they started crossing another street.

"Why? Why not come bother my big brother? I need you to accompany me back to Mystic Falls. I have a witch there who can help undo Esther's spell that linked us together."
