As the three walked out of the tree, William could see this was truly a Hybrid Heaven. The tree they stood in was enormous. Wooden bridges led place to place, yet there was nearly no need. Many of the hybrids already had wings. Orange lanterns hung from the high branches, with tree cabins here and there.
The three walked across a bridge to an isolated side of the tree and a cluster of sparkles caught William's eye. He turned his head and saw a starry figure, his skin a starry night sky. He wore a dark green coat, with straps here and there, light brown pants and dark brown boots. The thing William saw most was his pure white eyes, light and mist flowing of the sides. An enormous ghastly pirate ship floated high above the canopy, mist towering into the night sky.
The figure stared off into the darkness, and spread enormous, white and angelic wings William hadn't spotted earlier. The tips were black, and tattered. The angel hovered into the air, and light blue sparkles flew from his fingertips, forming waving lights across the sky.
Aurora Borealis.
"Who's that?" Julia stared in awe.
"That's Jack, creator of Aurora Borealis. He brings spirits to Olympus, where they live the afterlife." Dertex explained. "Captain of the Big Dipper, angel of the skies."
"That's the Big Dipper?!" Julia exclaimed, staring at the enormous ship.
"Majestic, isn't it?" Dertex grinned.
The Big Dipper was sparkling with silvery night sky patterns, like Suns too many to count. A silvery siren with dragon like wings lay at the bow.
"How does he even-" William couldn't even finish his sentence. He was too amazed.
"He alone controls the entire ship." Dertex said.
"What if he dies from age?" Julia stammered. She also hoped Jack didn't hear her.
"He can't die from age." Dertex laughed. "He cant."
"But how?!" William didn't know what to say anymore.
"He drinks a potion that keeps him alive. The guy doesn't age, yet he's been living since the battle with Kronos." Dertex explained. "If he doesn't drink the potion for 5 days, he'll fade out of existence, and so will the Big Dipper.
"Oh my goodness." Julia was awestruck. "So the bridge to Olympus is... Aurora Borealis?"
"Yes." Dertex confirmed. "We should hurry on though. I've seen what he did to a hybrid foolish enough to interrupt his work, and I'm too frightened to see it again."
Now Julia felt uneasy, and she needed no persuading to continue across the bridges.
-
"JASON!" William shouted, running to his brother and hugging him.
"Hey bro." Jason sighed in relief, hugging him back.
William drew away as Julia took her turn and told him about what she and William had seen on the way there.
"My goodness you look cool." William moaned in jealousy, seeing Jason's wings and tail.
"Whaaaat?" Jason grinned, testing out his wings and tail. "Seems like I have a third hand now because of the scythe tail thing."
"Pfft..." Julia rolled her eyes.
A bell rang outside, and the five people(Dr. John was there too) in the room could hear hybrids excited cries from outside.
"Dinner time. I'll take you guys to the mess hall." Dertex smiled, opening the door.
-
William literally carved through his steak and Julia stared awkwardly at him.
"Don't you have an appetite." Jason laughed, and stopped to duck under a black tipped wing. "Hey, watch it-"
Jack turned his head to Jason, emotionless.
He was actually pretty tall up close, and he looked much more threatening than William had expected.
Jason quickly turned away and got really interested in his food.
Jack continued on walking towards a table at the left corner of the large room.
A fluffy, canine creature with horns and four ears sat at the table Jack walked to. It wore a green flannel shirt and a glowing white gem on its neck.
A girl Dratix with a grey tshirt sat beside the creature, talking nonstop.
Two boys sat beside Jack, one wearing a red jacket and black pants, the other wearing a dark blue robe and light brown pants. The taller boy(red jacket) had a longsword at his waist, rubies embedded in the blade. He had dark brown hair and bright red eyes, like Jason. The slightly shorter boy(blue robes) had messy, brunette hair and a tattered black cloak on his right shoulder. Golden swirls ran down the cloak, and the boy had a black marking on his right hand which looked like a six pointed star.
Lastly, a girl with white, wavy hair and pale skin sat down by the Dratix, wearing an orange and white striped sweater with grey pants. However, she had Monarch butterfly wings. She looked quiet the entire time, and rather down.
"Jason, don't threaten Jack. Dertex said he didn't want to see Jack in battle ever again." Julia shivered, staring at the starry pirate.
Jason nodded solemnly.
It seemed like this place wasn't much of a heaven after all.
-
Oni made a few scratch marks on the wooden table with her claws, carving a smooth deer horn. She flicked her red dragon tail and sighed, slitted pupils flickering to a random spot and back to the scratches.
"Hi! How's it going, Oni?" Neo(the Dratix girl with a grey tshirt) sat down beside her with her lion tail wrapped around an apple raised to a few inches beside her cheek.
"Good..." Oni mumbled, staring at the table.
"We're here." Freddie and Dan(red and blue) sat down beside where Jack used to sit, and they started talking to each other in a strange language.
Lastly, a monarch butterfly hybrid nervously sat down beside Neo, quiet and trying to stay unnoticed. Her delicate wings fluttered slightly as she sat down, and she quietly braided her own hair.
"Monarch." Oni dipped her head slightly, and went back to slumping onto the table.
Monarch looked at Neo curiously, and the Dratix give her a nod, switching seats with the butterfly hybrid.
"Are you alright?" The butterfly girl softly asked, her voice small, but effective on the stern canine hybrid.
Oni's astonishing green eyes looked up at Monarch, a small tear on the edge of her eye. Being the second oldest, Oni watched over the rest when Jack was gone on trips to find spirits. She was scared of something. Not something about Jack. If something were to happen to him.
She was thinking too far forward, but just. What if?
Monarch stroked Oni's green hair, earning a soft spark of happiness in the canine hybrid's eyes. Light orange light flowed from her fingertips, fading into Oni's chest, where her heart would be. Oni sighed, closing her eyes with a smile.
Monarch switched seats with Neo again, shooting each other grins.
Monarch was able to give joy to people that opened their feelings to her. Butterflies gave much joy and fun since old days, so she had the ability to bring joy also.
-
Freddie and Dan highfived quietly under the table when Oni smiled at Monarch, and they smirked at each other.
