On September 1, 1976, nothing peculiar or strange appeared to be happening. But appearance are often quick to change. In the Great Hall before the feast began, if you looked closely, four boys were huddled tightly together, each of their minds wondering to different places.

James Potter, of the Most Ancient and Noble House of Potter, was openly staring at another student in his year; Lily Evans to be specific.

Sirius Black was flirting with anything that had a pulse. Eyes often darting to the end of the hall to look at a boy who shared his last name, but you could hardly call them brothers. And every once and a while if you looked closely, his eyes would often rest on the boy across from him. Eyes full of love and want and hope.

Remus Lupin was reading a book ("What you reading for Moony? School hasn't even started yet." laughed James while gawping at Lily). Remus rolled his eyes ("Oh, don't be such a sour wolf, Moony," exclaimed Sirius), but he wasn't really annoyed. Luckily the full moon wasn't for another two weeks.

Peter Pettigrew was sleeping. Kind of. His head was in his hands, eyes nearly closed, and mouth wide open awaiting the feast to begin. Peter was hungry and tired, but mostly hungry. He couldn't wait for Dumbledore to start his beginning of year speech so they could eat.

Each of their thoughts were interrupted when Professor McGonagall brought their attention to the front of the hall, where Dumbledore was about to begin his speech.

"Good evening students, you all don't know how glad I am that another year at Hogwarts is beginning again. To our first years, welcome, and to our soon-to-be graduates, we all wish you a wonderful final year. Now, for a few start of term notices..." but whatever Dumbledore was fixing to say was interrupted by a loud bang.

Nobody could quite tell where the noise originated from, but everyone was wary. The upperclassmen and the staff all had their wands out, while the younger years were cowering at the back of the hall in their seats.

Suddenly, a small scrap of paper drifted down from the ceiling, into the hands of Professor McGonagall. She skimmed the letter, first her eyes widened, then her mouth parted in shock, and lastly she gasped aloud. Dumbledore soon interrupted her inner thoughts by clearing his throat.

"Excuse me Professor," At that Professor McGonagall raised her head to meet Dumbledore's eyes, "Would you kindly read that letter aloud for the rest of the hall to hear?"

"Dear Students and Staff of the Past,

Please don't panic, that would make everything so much more difficult. We understand the need to be cautious in these terrible times, but we implore you to listen.

We are from the future, and we sent this letter back as a warning, for we shall be arriving in about 2 minutes time to change our world for the better. When we come back, there will be a set of books that we shall read together to change our future, prevent death, and make our world better.
