Winter Soldier's Sister

Part Two

 A couple of days have passed. Angelica wakes up in a strange room. Panic sets in but she's greeted with a face that triggers a memory. "Hey, are you ok?" She hears. Shuri is at the compound, running tests with Banner. "She shouldn't be having these types of headaches.." Shuri says with concern. "Well according to the intel Nick got for us, it's been happening a lot more." They continue to speak, but Angelica is very lost. They have been following. "....why do I know your face.." You struggle to speak as it gets worse. "Ahhhh!"  grabbing her head it feels like it'll crack. "Hey, keep your eyes closed. Please. I know you're confused but it will help." With a nod, she keeps them closed. It works. "I think it could be a visual trigger." She hears Shuri speak and the pain doesn't get any worse. "Um..well the pain isn't getting worse.." Banner is taking notes as Shuri gets out a helmet. "That is good. Don't worry, we are here to help." She smiles down at her. "I am Shuri, I know you can't see but there is a  man, he is Bruce Banner. You are at the Avengers Compound."

   Angelica hears as her eyes stay closed. "W-what...I am....why" she stammers, she has heard of them but never in a million years would she see herself here. "Well...all we can say is that it's due to your headaches.." Banner spoke. Shuri was still a bit upset that this occurred. With no real answer, she is a touch mad. It shows and they exchange glances. "Look we're sorry but if we say anymore it will seriously make your mind explode.." Shuri whispers in her ear as the helmet goes on. "This won't hurt...it's just to get some scans." nodding softly they continue their work. Before she knew it, her eyes grew heavy.

  She  Awoken in a bedroom, Angelica looked around. It's homey and there are cameras. "This is for your protection Angelica.." A new voice comes over the intercom in her room. "How did you know my name...how do any of you." The voice hesitates." All we can say is we've been watching over you. Making sure you're ok. I'm Tony." Her eyes go wide. "As in Stark!" "Yes. I only wish it was under different Circumstances." Tony was in his lab, and Steve and Bucky were looking at the screen as she spoke. "Can I ask why the room? Why is no looking allowed?" Tony looked at the two and spoke. "Your brain is sick to put it in layman's terms. Seeing and hearing certain people will trigger your headaches." Steve and Bucky didn't look back. "I wonder why that even happened.." He says with the mic off. "I told you two to STOP...now Hydra knows her whereabouts." Steve leaned on the table and looked at Bucky. "We're sorry Tony but we had to...he needed to know." Tony just stared. "I get it, it's his sister but now.." He was interrupted by Angelica. "Ok, I understand..so why does your voice not give me any headaches." Angelica wonders but she has heard his voice before on TV and such. "I am not someone who has ties to you from your true past." He spoke looking at them as the mic was on. The two could see the anger on Tony's face.

The mic went off again, she could sense a bit of anger. "Probably not directed at me." She was now hugging a pillow taking it all in. "True past...." She repeated. What did they mean? Deep down she knew somehow. 'It's like there's me trying to be freed.' The more she tried to remember, the more intense the pain." Please remember...I want to know" She whispered to herself. Nothing but pain. Tears welled up and fell from her face. What she didn't know was Bucky was watching her.

His hand touched the screen. There she was, finally within arms reach. yet he could not see or talk to her. It hurt him so much after all these years. Speaking her nickname, a tear fell from his face. "Angelica....what tortures did you have to endure? How many nights did you lay awake wondering where I was to save you." His head fell. "I'm sorry I wasn't there...I'm sorry I failed you." Looking at the ground his hand shook in anger. 'Bucky, there is something you need to know..' Nick Fury's voice echoed in his mind, recalling their meeting as the anger grew. 'You're not going to like it..at all. Hydra knew the connection between you two. Unlike Wanda and her brother Pietro, You two can never see each other or let her hear your voice....'

Tony and Steve were outside discussing things. "Bucky should have not been there for the retrieval. can't you see what it's doing to her? She'll break." Steve knew the risk, but he couldn't listen to Tony's command. "It had to be him...if she saw me..." He paused. The memory of her made his heart hurt. "If it was you what...you said there was nothing between you" Tony, still mad, turned around and stared at the sky. "Fury didn't tell you did he...about what Hydra did to her. This is why I suggested Clint and Natasha, Tony...you're so damn stubborn." Tony turned around confused as Steve spoke, he replied. "All Fury said was you two shouldn't be the ones. I said ok fine. Then I lied. You all are family. Who else but family Steve." He gave him a sad glance and spoke. Tony's eyes widened. Then he sat down on the bench. "....He said they were like Wanda and Pietro... Manipulated and subjected to testing...but why did they do that...that's just.." Tony couldn't finish. "Evil..." Steve said and sat down next to him. "I think Fury wanted this to happen. He knew you wouldn't listen...but I have to wonder.." "Why?" Tony spoke. "Exactly," Steve replied.

    Shuri and Banner were with everyone in the meeting room. "As you may know, we did retrieve Angelica. But it ended up triggering her memories." Banner spoke hesitantly. Bucky sat in the back just listening. His anger is still there. "Let me guess Fury left out some minor details. As always, right? Turns out Sending Barnes and Rogers was a bad idea..." Tony spoke up looking at everyone. He continued. "I wonder...why. What's his endgame.." Shuri was still fuming. When they asked her to help she didn't think they'd tamper. "It should have worked...they told me you'd be reunited.." She looked down, then at Bucky. "I am sorry...I should have kept tabs and told you.." Bucky snapped out of it and looked at everyone. "You had your brother to worry about...it's ok. Like Tony said, why did they tamper with your work? Why is it only just occurring...or maybe she still is being used." Everyone was silent. The tests on her mind showed evidence of tampering. Or did it? There were blank spots in her memory. The life she knew. It was a lie. Lies built on lies. It was cracking her mind.

    Fury was watching Angelica in her room. Having hacked into the feed. "Yes, she is secured... Hydra won't be able to find her for the time being.." He spoke to the council. "I only told them what they needed to know. That she needed saving. I'm hoping Stark listened and sent Clint and Nat." The council nodded in agreement. "If her memories were to resurface...It would result in tragedy.." Fury looked at her. "Yes...no matter how smart Shuri is... Angelica's mind is far from fixable." The council all agreed and their meeting ended. Maria came in and handed him some papers. "Did you tell them the truth.." Fury looked at her. "What truth I wonder.." She just leaned on the table. "That Barnes and Rogers know. That Shuri's help only placed a blanket on her mind.." He shook his head. "No...but I'm hoping Tony disobeyed my suggestion. I got a hunch that breaking her will be her cure.."

    Angelica was now sitting by the window. ".... I'm hungry.." A voice came from the intercom. "What would you like to eat?" It was Nat. She had just come back from the meeting. "Oh hello..um maybe just mac and cheese...oh and soda." Her stomach made a noise. "Maybe some cheesecake?" Nat laughed. "Sure thing... I'm Nat, by the way, I'll also be talking to you from time to time."
