Elisse Madison

Elisse sighed and pressed her back against her seat, looking at her unfinished latté. She glanced at her wrist watch and realized she has been waiting for more than an hour for someone who agreed to meet her after weeks of talking through a messaging app.

But it turns out she will go home alone tonight, again. This isn't the first time she is ghosted, but this particular guy really made her upset. She is looking forward to see him and is hoping that this will work out or else her dad will set her up again to some random guys who's a son of a noble family or something.

They aren't from a rich family but his dad wanted to make sure she'll date someone who is well-off and can support her through marriage. He's still expecting her to be someone who will stay at home and take care of her children like how women are expected to be. A woman who thinks about her career more than taking care of her household is something that her family despises.

Call that an old fashioned tradition but that's how her family has been throughout the past generation.

But she wanted to break it.

She loved teaching and her love for her profession is something she can't just give up in exchange of marriage. It's what makes her soul happy, seeing those smiles from her students and watching them become someone they dreamed of is what keeps her going. The job is not easy but she is happy. She loves her work and she can't let it go.

She wanted to be a woman who can be successful with her career as she can be in her household, with the man she truly loves, of course.

She finally lifted her hand to call for the waiter's attention and pay for her bill. When she's done, she left the café to get herself home. She still have classes for tomorrow and she feels exhausted. She even wore these gorgeous heels owned by her best friend, Roseanne.

She remember how excited she is for this date, crashing to her apartment to help her dress up but it turns out her efforts are for nothing. She looked at her phone screen, hoping that her messages would at least get seen but it was left unattended. When she tried to call for his number, it became unreachable.

God, this is frustrating.

After a couple of minutes walking in the busy side walk, she walked through the side to rest her feet. Her calves felt like they're breaking and when she took off her shoes, her toes has blisters on them. She isn't a fan of these fancy shoes but trying it for circumstances like this, she's willing to sacrifice.

She is so used to wearing decent and conservative dresses, she often uses cardigans too and flat ballet shoes to be presentable to the students she is teaching. Being a Homeroom teacher has a lot of responsibilities. Students look up to her and she has to live with the expectations. But she bite her lower lip, cancelling her call and gulping hard.

Can she curse?

"Fucking asshole." She whispered and touched her forehead.

That felt good, she thought. She sighed again, resting on the bench for a bit. She stretched her legs and moved her ankles around to amend the pain of her fashion sacrifice. She dialed the number of her best friend instead. It didn't take her two rings to answer, her lively voice blasted in her speakers.

"Okay, judging by the time you left your apartment, it didn't work out." She heard Roseanne said, making her sigh. "Oh, El. I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault, Ro. Why are you apologizing?" Elisse answered and looks at the busy streets of the city, taking her time to just clear her head from her failed attempt to romance.
