Elisse Madison
It's cold.
Elisse hates the cold. She softly moved over the soft mattress and extended her hand to reach for something to keep her warm. But she couldn't reach anything and that finally made her slowly open her eyes.
She is welcomed by an unfamiliar bedroom and that huge windowpane next to the bed. The room is only illuminated by the small lamp over the bedside table and she realized that it's only two in the morning according to the clock next to it. She can even vaguely remember what happened before she passed out. She looked around but none of it was known to her.
She sat on the bed, turning to the small heater next to it. She extended her hand to reach for it and move it closer to her. The bed is sitting on the cold floor and that explains why she felt like freezing in there.
She touched her forehead and released a heavy sigh. She can still feel the effect of the beer she had finished tonight. She feels a little dizzy and sleepy too. It's been a while since she drank this much. Maybe the last time she drank too much beer was when the faculty members of the university had an out-of-town conference in Busan for three days.
That was a year ago.
She flinched when the door gently opened, the huge figure of the man she has been waiting on the subway is standing there.
"Jake."
Seeing him here instantly gave her relief. She couldn't care less where she is unless it's with him. He walked towards her and she closed her eyes when he cupped her cheek. His warm hand is enough for her to ignore the freezing room they are in. She held on his wrist, making him feel her cold hands.
"You're freezing." He said, carefully putting the newly washed mattress around her. It even felt warm and so nice she feels like she will fall back to sleep in a minute."W-where are we? Is this your home?" She asked, scooting closer to him for more warmth.
"Sorry, but I can't take you to your place because I didn't know your passcode. And, uh, you—uh, passed out. I can't wake you up after you threw up earlier." He answered and kneeled on the floor while fixing the bed to gather all his spare blankets to keep her warm.
"I threw up?" Elisse asked and covered her face. "Oh, my God. I'm so sorry. I didn't do anything so embarrassing, right?" She asked, peeking through her fingers.
Jake didn't answer and just made a half-smile.
"Oh, God. No." Elisse said and covered her face again. "Please don't tell me I am at my worst, like the worst that I even danced in that club. Please, no."
That made Jake lightly giggle.
"It wasn't that bad. You're fine." He answered and brushed her hair. "But you were discussing about how cumulus clouds are the worst type of clouds. It's fascinating how passionate you are on the shotgun."
"Stop." Elisse said again, making him giggle.
She smiled watching him, this is the first time she saw him laugh like that. And that look on his face is so peaceful to look at, not like the one she witnessed last night inside the ring. He was so different back there but at least she has this luxury to see him this so carefree.
"I knew it, your feet are freezing." He said and took a pair of warm socks to put it on her. "Put this on, I warmed it up too." He continued and gave her feet gentle squeezes with his warm hands.
"That feels really good." She said and smiled. "Thank you, you don't really need to do this though."
"I'm sorry if this place is freezing. I don't usually stay in, that's why I didn't bother fixing the heater of the house. But I'll take it tomorrow for repairs." Jake said again, looking sorry as he stared at her. He touched her cheek with his warm hand again and that made her smile.
