Jake Jacobs

It was supposed to be a great Friday night, time to spend it with a couple of drinks and drunk fun conversations but Jake chose to spend it in the ring. He focused himself on that red training punch pad that Raymond is holding and threw him another heavy punch. He can feel the sweat trailing down his back and arms but that didn't bother him at all.

"Good!" Raymond shouted, grunting too because of his improving strength. He is monitoring Jake's punches and feet movements for the upcoming fight he agreed to be in.

"More weight on your left foot." He instructed, making Jake nod and hit him again with his gloved hands. The older grunted again, holding the pad tighter in his hands. He can see that Raymond is having a harder time in receiving his punches, but he can't be complacent. He has to work harder because this is going to be his biggest shot in the underground boxing match.

The two are spending more time in their training, his upcoming fight is in six weeks. Jake needed the money. It's his biggest fight up to date and the cash prize is what made him do this. And so, he'd rather spend more time in his training rather than going with his colleagues at his part time-job this Friday night.

"Let's take a break, kid." Raymond said, huffing. He took off the punch pad and dropped it on the ring, walking to the corner to get his tumbler.

"I can still do more rounds." Jake answered, panting too while leaning against the rope of the ring. He took off his gloves and dropped them on the ring as he catches his breath.

"Rest. We have been doing this for two hours. Rehydrate." Raymond answered and tossed him the other tumbler that he caught in the air. Jake didn't answer again and just drink some water. "Are you sure about this match, Jake?"

Jake paused and looked at the older. "What do you mean? Of course, I am." He answered and jumps off the ring, walking to the bench to get his clean towel.

"Your opponent could kill you." Raymond said, making him pause from opening his duffle bag and looks at him. "He's been fighting for 8 years. Underground fighting isn't like what you see on TVs. He can kill you in the ring and he won't hesitate to do it."

Jake sighed and sits on the bench with his clean towel over on his head. He looked at his knuckles covered in white bandages, slowly taking it off.

"I need the money." He briefly answered.

"I get that. But if you fight with the others, you can still earn something." Raymond argued, trying convince the younger to at least think about this again.

Jake didn't answer right away and quietly takes off the bandage around his hands. Raymond stared at him, waiting for him to change his mind. He has been a very good friend for years, he introduced underground boxing to Jake because of his desperation to earn money. He got the potential and he is not just a lousy fighter; he is disciplined and determined.

If he will be recruited in a decent promotion company, he will have the chance to have a name in the industry of professional boxing. Jake is only 25 years old; he is in his golden years and he can literally do anything with his current body condition. This kid literally looked like a beast and fights like a beast. But Raymond is not letting him get through these reckless matches.

They aren't only dangerous, but deadly too.

"If I don't pay my debts, mom's life support will be removed." He said, after a moment of silence. Raymond parted his lips, he can't even argue with that anymore. His dad is also an underground fighter. But he died from his last match and his dispatcher took advantage of him. Out of all the earnings he won from his fights, he didn't get what he deserved.
