'Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, exhibit number one is what the seraphs, the misinformed, simple, noble-winged seraphs, envied. Look at this tangle of thorns.' - Lolita
I have always loved this quote. I have always loved Lolita. How the cruellest things in the world often result in the most beautiful. How you can make the most disgusting things seem okay with just a few delicately chosen words. 'He cheated on me'. No, I think I prefer 'I was a watercolour. Easily washed off. But still beautiful, just with the right painter.' See? That's much better.
This is how I treat the poetry that I write: the beauty from the cruelty. The rose from the dirt. I hope you can find some solace in this, as I have done.
These are the other quotes that inspired me to write:
'Hatred would have been easier. With hatred, I would have known what to do. Hatred is clear, metallic, one-handed, unwavering; unlike love.' - Cat's Eye
'He came. He left. Nothing else had changed. I had not changed. The world hadn't changed. Yet nothing would be the same. All that remains is dream making and strange remembrance.' - Call Me By Your Name
'All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love' - Leo Tolstoy
