"Lilith go call your sister." Mom authorized, she immediately jumped up from the couch and ran up the stairs and to the room.
"Hey mom's calling you," She yelled as I barged into the room.
"I'll be down in a second."
"What are you doing?" My annoying older sister asked.
"What does it look like I'm doing? The makeup of course." I retorted upset.
"Trying not to break any mirrors and blind anyone, nice." She placed her hand on her hips and gave me a cocky smile.
"And what do you mean by that?" I stopped applying my makeup for a second to give her my full attention.
"I mean you're so ugly you put our obsessed, distorted-faced neighbor Maria to shame." I felt a lump form in my throat, I swallowed it forcefully.
"I'm not ugly, I'm pretty." I tried standing for myself, didn't want her words to hurt me, didn't want her to see how much her words affected me so I wore a mask, a very breakable glass mask.
"Oh please, don't bother, even the best and most famous make-up artist path McGrath couldn't make you pretty, you're ugly. Accept it! Own it!" The mask I was wearing broke into a million pieces.
"I hate you," I said with so much sorrow in my voice.
"The feeling is mutual darling." She spun on her heels and left the room. I stood there frozen for a second unsure what to do.
I wanted to finish my make-up but what's the use? She was right anyway, I'm a freak and I'm ugly, I wiped off the makeup I had on and headed downstairs.
"Alright, girls and boys make sure you behave yourself, be yourself, mingle." Dad was always bad at pep talks.
"Sheila's pool party is going to be a blast." Mom whooped.
"Come on children, into the truck," Dad ordered and we exited the house in a line.
****
"Happy birthday sheila." Mom wished the birthday lady as she got down from the truck.
"Thank you." They went in for a hug.
"These are my kids, Alexia, Lilith, and Adam and this is my husband Julius."
"Good to finally meet you, Julius," she and my dad hugged and pulled away after like two seconds "what beautiful kids you've got there, at least two of them are I don't know about the other one." She said in between laughter. By another one she means me, I'm unbothered by that I've heard it quite a couple of times.
"Yes I know, she took after her father's family." Lilith smiled cockily at me and I just ignored her.
"Come on and join the party." She led us to the back of the house.
"Where is the other birthday girl?"
"Oh my precious darling daughter Everest, she's at the back with her friends, she and Lilith will get along well."
"There she is go on to meet her," Lilith didn't waste any time, she went to join the younger celebrant and her friends "Adam, you can go meet the boys over there, they are playing a squad game."
"Yay." He ran off in their direction and I stood back awkwardly.
"Why are you still standing there? Go meet your age mates." I walked away slowly looking for someone of my caliber.
"Hi." I greeted a blonde girl with sparkly green eyes.
"Ew." She scrunched her nose and walked away. I looked at myself if I had poop on me or wet my pants but I did neither, I didn't fat either so why would she say that.
"You look worse than an ugly duckling." She turned around and said. I did as though it wasn't me she was talking to and walked away even though I knew very well it was me, I was fat and ugly.
Being eight sucks, I saw an empty seat and went to sit there and I started to think about my life.
"What are you doing?" Some girl walked up to me and asked.
"Are you blind or what? Can't your brain apprehend what I'm doing right now or are you that dumb?" Who asks such a stupid and annoying question.
"I'd rather be dumped than have that face," I felt a sting in my cheeks, and my throat went dry "that's the Celebrants seat get up." She demanded.
"Can't you ask politely?"
"I can but I won't. Up now."
"Ever heard of the word civil?"
"Ever heard of the word beauty or even make-up? Get your ugly ass up." At this point, I decided to stop myself from further humiliation and get up but before I could I heard a squeaky voice that stopped me.
"What's going on here?" A fair-skinned girl with shiny black hair asked, she was dressed in a gorgeous yellow gown, and I recognized her as the celebrant.
"This girl is refusing to get up from your seat."
"Urrr...no I'm not."
"So why are you still seated?" I was about to stand when Lilith came and pushed me off the chair.
"There, problem solved." She dusted her hands and smiled at them.
"Isn't she your sister?" One of the girls asked.
"Yes but I don't want to have anything to do with her."
"Why? Cause she's ugly?" The celebrant asked.
"Yeah." She said in a 'duh' tone. I slowly got up and dusted my dress.
"Well we don't want to be friends with someone just 'cause they're pretty." And with that, they left.
She was stunned, she stared at their retreating back with a broken expression.
"That's how I feel every time I get insulted and rejected by you and everyone else, maybe now that you know how it feels you won't ever treat me like trash again." I could hear the plea in the voice.
"So you did that on purpose? And for what? Just to make me feel how you feel every time! You're cruel and wicked!!!" She raised her voice and we gained an audience, the celebrant and her friends turned around to see what was going on.
"You're ugly and evil, I hate you so much." She pushed me and I fell on my butt but instead of being a bigger person and walking away like usual, I decided to fight back this time, I got up and pushed her back.
Everyone was starting to gather around us and it won't be long until the adults get here.
She pulled my hair and I pulled hers, and we began fighting. The adults got here and pulled us apart but Lilith broke free and punched me in my gut, I retaliated by pushing her back, she fell and hit her head on a rock.
"Ahhhh!!!! My baby!" Mom yelled as she ran to Lilith's side.
"She's not waking up!!!! Someone call 911"
"You killed her! You killed your sister!" Tears fell from my eyes as people gathered around my now immobile sister, I felt someone shove me and I fell on my butt, I just sat there and cried silently, a hole formed in my chest and I let the pain and guilt engulf me.
"You will pay for this! I swear!" Mom said quietly as they got into the ambulance.
"Your sister killed your other fine sister?" I heard someone ask.
"She's not my sister, not anymore!" That was the beginning of my nightmare.
