Hello! Thank you to quirky_alien for beta reading and helping me with the title. (Sorry for the unwanted tag, hope your weekend was nice.) You should go check them out they are so amazhang.
Hermione practically ran through the halls towards Pansy's class. However, who wouldn't? Some stay away from their loved ones for years. She couldn't imagine how those people felt seeing them again. Look at her behaving like a child again because she gets to see her lover after merely eight months. Though, as she thinks about those months, she can't help but want to run faster, to see her sooner so she could be in her arms again.
Of course, in those months, they wrote many, many letters to each other. However, it isn't the same as their witty banter as they walked down the streets looking through the shop windows. Knowing they didn't have the money for this part of London and accepting it because, as cheesy as it sounds, they had each other. Cuddling on the sofa-bed in their tiny studio apartment, before she got this new job, made for great memories. They were the thoughts she had in her head as she worked, sometimes eighty-hour weeks. During the nights, she tried to decide if all of this was even worth it, imagining the new home she and Pansy's could make with this money, them finally getting their wish of children, and not having to do odd jobs during the summer just to get by.
Hogwarts is a lovely place to work, but McGonagall only pays for the hours she works. Unfortunately, they usually didn't have enough saved during summer break since Pansy got cut off. Pansy tries to do muggle jobs though her lack of formal muggle education always stopped her from getting a good paying one. Hermione, on the other hand, couldn't keep a job for more than one summer. Right after it ended, she'd go back to living and teaching at the school. Many workplaces saw the gap in her resume and decided they couldn't take her, especially because she didn't have records of schooling past primary. Both of them worked hard during those times, doing odd jobs and even securing a job in an ice cream parlour once. Pansy even made steps to start her muggle education a few weeks before Hermione got the new job that placed her in the states.
Pansy is many things to her. She's Hermione's rock, a constant in her life even when they were at odds back during the first few years they knew each other. A loving partner, a best friend. She's everything and so much more to her. She could read her silence and identify what she needed, whether that was space or cuddles. Hermione never felt more open than when she was with her.
Hermione rounds a corner and, there it is. Just one door between the two. With just a flick of her hand, she could see her again. When she used to imagine this moment, she'd thought that she would swing the door open and... and... She never thought past that part because she didn't know what lay behind that door. Hermione felt her anxiety grow with each step towards it. Every step she took, she slowed until finally, she was standing there. Hermione felt someone grab her hand. In her excitement, she had forgotten that Harry was there to record everything with a camera.
She lifted her hand, resting it on the handle. She slowly presses the handle down, making the old wooden door creek in response. Hermione knows that there's no going back now.
"Yes?"
Her voice reached her ears, and with one word, she felt weak in the knees. Even if that word was spoken with such formality. How had she done this to her? A few years ago, she wouldn't even think twice of her saying anything.
With one fast flick of her hand, the door opened to reveal Pansy, looking at where the door was once closed. Completely disregarding what she was about to say to her class, she ran to her. Weaving through the tables, taking as little time as possible to do so, before finally being in her arms again.
Sorry no angst. I'm trying to my fics less depressing.
