Sooooo, here we are again. A day before I started this story I was in a bad mood. That day my country went in to the fourth lockdown we've had so far. I am mad and disappointed in our government for this. I know covid is no joke, but it feels like the restrictions are random and like they are not needed.
Anyway, I decided to write a story about the Shepherd family in quarantine.
Derek is alive and Meredith had covid but is at home now. She is not working. Derek goes in whenever needed. They still live in the dream house. The story takes place in April.'Mom! Where is my laptop I have school in 5 minutes!' Zola screams from her room. I sigh. 'It's under the clothes on your chair! You left it there yesterday!' I yell upstairs. 'Got it! Thanks!' 'Good luck, sweety!' I sigh and turn around the pancake in the pan. 'Oh shit!' I say. I burned it. Again. Derek walks in to the kitchen. 'Again?' he asks. 'Again.' I sigh. 'Mommy, I'm hungry!' little Ellis says and I turn around. Derek walks up to her and puts his hands on her shoulders. 'Good morning, princess!' he kisses her cheek. 'Good morning, daddy.' she giggles. 'Ellie bell, I burned the pancakes. Do you want some cereal?' I ask her. 'No, I want pancakes!' she wraps her arms over each other. 'Princess, we don't have pancakes. I'm sorry. I will go to the store later and I will buy new batter, okay?' Derek says. 'No! I want pancakes now!' she screams. 'Ellis Alexandra Shepherd, you are not getting pancakes right now!' Derek says sturdy. 'Nooooo!' she screams again. I can see Derek loose his patience. 'Go to your room. You can come down if you are calmed down.' he says calmly and Ellis stands up and walks upstairs. I throw all the burned pancakes away. Derek walks around the kitchen island and puts his hands on my shoulders and massages them. 'Take deep breaths, Mer.' he kisses my cheek. I take a few deep breaths and turn around. I kiss him and wrap my arms around his neck. 'Thank you.' I say. 'Is Bailey up? Is he in his online class.' I ask him and he nods. 'Yes. He was done way before I went in his room. Are you okay, Mer? You look pale. You should really take it easy.' he says worriedly. 'I'm fine, Derek. I just don't want to see Ellis angry and sad.' 'That's not all, Mer. I know you.' he kisses my cheek. 'I'm really fine, Derek. I just want to chance things after I had COVID. I need to be there more for the kids.' I get out of his arms and start cleaning up the kitchen. 'You need to promise me one thing, Meredith.' I look up and I see he sat down at the kitchen island. 'What is it?' I shake my head. 'After you are done cleaning, you are going to lay down on the couch and watch a series. I know you. You are tired and out of breath. But by pushing your limits, you are not going to get back in the OR.' he says. 'You're right.' I sigh. 'I am going to check on Ellie.' he gets up but I stop him. 'Let me do it. Can you clean up the kitchen?' I walk up to him and put my hand on his cheek. 'Anything for you, dear.' he kisses my lips and I walk upstairs.
'Hey, Ellis. Can I come in?' I open the door slightly and look around the door. 'Okay.' I hear her whisper. I get in her room. Her bedroom walls are covered in painted trees. I see she lays against her huge bear that is on the floor at the end of her bed. She is all wrapped up and her eyes are red and poofy. 'Can I sit next to you?' she nods her head. 'Are you okay?' 'I don't know, mommy.' she says. 'Do you miss someone?' she immediately starts crying loudly. 'Oh, Ellie come here.' I pull her on my lap and she burries her head in my chest. 'Who do you miss?' I ask her, rubbing her back. 'I miss Milo and I miss Emma. And miss Julie. I want to see her again.' she cries. 'Oh, baby. You see miss Julie on the laptop, right. I know it isn't the same. But, you can still see her.' I kiss the top of her head. 'I know. I miss them, mommy.' she says. 'You have a short day today. You have an online class in 10 minutes. Then you can play and do your work. How about we hold a movie marathon in bed in the afternoon?' she lifts her tiny head up and looks at me. 'In you and daddies bed?' I nod. 'Yay yippie yay!' she jumps up. We get downstairs and I start up the laptop for her.
Ellis is in her online class and she is smiling again. Derek gets out of the pantry with a list in his hand. 'Grocery list?' I ask him and he nods. 'I am going to get dressed and then I will go to the store. And you are going to lay down and watch a series.' he kisses my cheek and I make my way to couch. At the same time, Zola and Bailey get down with their laptops and sit down at the dinner table. 'Hey, sweeties.' I say and I turn on The Good Place. 'Shh, I have class, mom.' Bailey says and I laugh. 'I'm leaving.' Derek says. He waves the kids goodbye, gives me a kiss and then he puts on all his protection. He has two masks on, one splatter mask and he has his gloves with him. 'Goodbye, Derek.' I whisper and he waves. He makes his way out the door. I start watching the series, but slowly I can feel my eyelids get heavy.
