Some things about me:

- I was fifteen, a freshman in high school when the original series came out.

- At this time, I was "straight," minus that time period of a few months in middle school when I was not. But like, other than that, straight.

- I watched the series the week it came out.

- I watched it again.

- And again.

- And again.

- I am now nineteen, in college, not straight, and I revisit the show occasionally. I've had nearly four years to ruminate over this series and how dissatisfied I've been with the ending.

- I needed a project and also closure, and I just rewatched the series again, so this is what I landed on.

Some things about this project:

- I've altered the timeline a little bit. I've decided that, for the sake of the way I want to tell the story, the end of the last season takes place at the beginning of winter break. In my mind, the season of the show was from September to December, so things were drawn out a little longer. The story opens on the scene of Leroy at the O'Neils' house, which is about a week before Christmas.

- The girl with the pigtails who performed a bible verse as her movie audition is known only as "Punky Girl." The actress who plays her is Kiah Butts. However, I have decided that she is in a close-knit friend group with Emaline, Jessica, Scott, and Cedric (and Oliver, before he left). Her name is Mary Kate Hamilton.

- I really like Kate and Emaline, their story is what makes this show so special to me, so there will be a lot of emphasis on their relationship and coming out journeys.

- In this story, Jessica and Leslie are sisters. They give the same energy as Stacy and Ginger from Phineas and Ferb, so I made the executive decision to just combine their family trees. It just felt right. I don't know Leslie's last name, so for the sake of this project, they're Jessica and Leslie Betts.

Anyway, here goes something.
