Scarlet's POV

I sit down next with my family for the last time. Yeah I am leaving. I don't belong in the Abnegation faction. I find it too hard to have to be so concealed. My best friend, Tobias, sits next to me. He's also leaving. We talked about it on the way home today. Today was the Aptitude test, the test to tell us which faction to chose. Of course the test didn't work on me, per-usual.  My test administrator told me to act normal because what I was, was a threat to the whole system here. I told Tobias of course but he didn't talk very much about it. He might be one too but I wont bug him, he has enough on his plate, getting away from Marcus. Marcus is his dad, the very reason he wants to leave.

As the ceremony begins, Tobias's dad finally sits down next to him and he scoots closer to me. The new Erudite governess is todays speaker, Jeanine Matthews, she says the same old speech...blah blah blah. Afterwards she calls over some Abnegation official to call out the names. I tune out everything until it was Tobias's turn.

He gets up and wobbles to the stairs, relaxing once he's away from Marcus. Heading down I can see the gears turning in his head. He's made his decision. As he walks up to the bowls I end up holding my breath. I close my eyes at the slicing of his hand and open them to the sizzling of the coals. He did it. He chose Dauntless.and with no hesitation. I am so proud of him. I watch him head over to sit down with the black clothed crew. I can hear Marcus next to me scoffing. Before he could ask me anything about Tobias's decision the next kid gets called.

I tried to pay attention but I kept trying to doge glares from Marcus. At one point I swear I heard him mutter under his breath that it was my fault he was sonless. Soon enough I was called. I stand up and head my way.

I know what I wanna pick, but I don't want to leave my brother and sister let alone my parents, but I am unhappy and I don't want to be stuck. I think about what I told my siblings before we left.

"Now remember, If you are ever unhappy, just know its ok to make a decision for yourself rather to benefit someone else"

Very true. I get to the bowls and look back at my parents. Dad gives me a worry smile and Mom nods as if she knows my decision and approves. She always gave me my confidence. I turn and slice my hand and watch and my single drop of blood falls to the hot burning coals.

Sizzzzzzzz....
