(cheating and confessions)

I SHOT A QUICK LOOK TOWARDS THE ROOM'S DOORS. They flung shut with a dull bang. Mrs Dark had locked us in here with her.

''Naughty, naughty, naughty,'' Mrs Dark sung, her ratted head swinging from side to side. ''I can hurt you from here silly Nephilim. The pentagram's only one sided, you can't touch me but oh how I can make you writhe.''

I shivered at the ease of which the demon spoke those words.

''You will do no such thing.'' I hissed. ''We are bound under the protection of the Enclave, anything you do to us unprovoked will result in your death.''

Mrs Dark snarled. ''I am held to no such accords, they do not bind me.''

That's when I knew that it was either Mrs Dark or us that escaped alive. Not both. It would be a bloody fight to the death. I'd take pleasure gutting her, that much was for certain.

''Come out of your protection circle then,'' I said, signalling to the pentagram. ''If you want to fight us then do so, don't hide behind your trickery and enchantments. One on one combat. Or are you too afraid to fight fair.''

''Darcie what are you doing.'' Jem asked, his tone dire. Each moment I wasted taunting Mrs Dark was another one we lost to try and save the Enclave with. But didn't Jem see what I was doing, trying to draw Mrs Dark out? Of course I wouldn't fight fair. The moment she stepped out of the runed circle we would descend upon her mercilessly.

''I have no way to hold you to your word, Nephilim.'' Mrs Dark crowed. ''So here, instead you shall step inside the circle. Fairs fair. Unless your the one who fears an even fight.''

I saw Will blanch beside me. He turned towards me, his blue eyes shouting, no, over and over again. That was a small relief. At least Will didn't now think me too different, too alike Camille as Magnus had

I breezed past him, pulling my arm out of his grasp.

''I kill you, and were done here.'' I said, narrowing my eyes as I searched Mrs Dark's face for agreement.

''Maybe I'll kill you.'' She hummed. ''Once you step inside neither of your Nephilim friends can follow.''

My throat tightened. If only this blasted pentagram could be affected by angelic weapons.

 ''Done.''

I ignored Will and Jem's shouts as I stepped into the circle. I wanted to jerk back as an icy presence washed over me, yet continued ahead until I was past the chalk line. ''No magic.'' I said, raising Lazarus. ''No trickery, and no lies.''

''I will keep my word.'' Mrs Dark nodded begrudgingly. Oh how she probably wanted to slice me up into bloody ribbons with her powers. It would've been easy, but no, I'd made her agree to fight like a mortal. With steel and sweat.
