Chapter 15 - A not so happy ball

*Third person POV*

Wilbur stood in front of the mirror while maids and tailors ran around fixing his outfit. He hasn't smiled all day and no one knew what they should do, so they just stayed silent.

Wilbur knew that he was killing the mood but he couldn't care less. He just wanted to wolo in self pity, but he couldn't let down his father. "Okay you majesty, you're ready," one of the maids said.

Wilbur looked at his reflection, he looked nice but his facial expression was dull. Wilbur walked out of his room and made his way to the hall room.

Pushing his way through the door he saw a room full of people. He stood at the top of the stairs as the people looked at him. Trumpets started and he made his way down the stairs.

Philza made eye contact with Wilbur and gave him a nod of sympathy. Wilbur looked around and saw princesses from all over the land that had come to win his hand in marriage yet he wanted to reject every single one of them.

Making his way to his father, Wilbur saw all the girls whisper to each other. "He's even better looking in person!" One of them whispered. Wilbur just rolled his eyes.

He didn't want people to like him for his looks... once Wilbur was stood by his father, Phil got up and got everyone's attention.

"Good evening! Thank you all for coming tonight. I would like to commence the ball!" Phil said and everyone moved to the side for the princesses to get onto the dance floor.

The music started and the princesses started dancing. Wilbur made his way to the dance floor and waited for the right moment to join in.

Wilbur had a blank expression on his face the entire time. not smiling once. A princess spun past him, so he joined in with her.

I took her hand and placed his hand on his waist. She smiled at him brightly but he didn't return it. "Hi! I'm princess Talia, from the kingdom of-"

Wilbur didn't bother to listen to the rest. He spun her away and joined a different princess. Wilbur didn't need to listen to the rest.  He could tell she was a bitch by her tone of voice. It was fake.

This went on for a while. Barely talking to princesses before spinning them away. Most of them were okay but had no... spark to them.

Wilbur had just spun away his 6th princess and joined another. "Good evening, I am princess Theodosia, of the western kingdom. I have heard a lot about you prince Wilbur," Theodosia said proudly.

"Thank you, I've heard about your kingdom," Wilbur replied blandly. He tried to sound remotely interested but in reality he didn't want to be there at all.

She looked at him with a tilted head. "You... don't want to get married... do you?" She asked. Wilbur's head snapped back to looked at her. Was he that obviously?

"How did you...?" He started.

"I know that look," she smiled. Wilbur gave a weak smile. At least someone understands...

"I... also don't really want to marry... well not you at least. No offence! I mean-" she said, realising what she had said.

"No no, I get it... I have someone I like but... they're not of royal blood so... how about you?" Wilbur asked.

"Umm... well mine...? It's not that I like someone else, it's just that... I'm a lesbian..." she said shyly.

"Oh wow, really? Congrats on... coming out I guess," Wilbur didn't really know what to say.

"That's just it! My parents don't know... I'm scared to tell them. I'm the only air and what happens if they don't accept me?" She asked, over-thinking.

"Hey! It's okay, I'm sure that it will be fine. Take your time, and don't worry-" Wilbur was cut off by a bunch of trumpets. Theodosia and Wilbur stopped dancing and looked at each other confused.

All the princesses left the dance floor and Wilbur looked at his father. Phil beckoned him over and when he started walking he pointed at Theodosia. Wilbur shrugged at her and they walked up together.

"Hello, your Theodosia from the western kingdom if I'm not mistaken?" Phil asked, looking over at her. She nodded and looked at Wilbur confused.

"Well, it's lovely to meet you," Phil said, "now both of you go and enjoy the rest of the night, I have something to do."

Phil then got up and walked off to who knows where. Theodosia and Wilbur looked at each other confused.

"Well that was.... Odd," Theodosia said watching Phil walk off.

"Indeed..." Wilbur replied. After that, Wilbur walked off into a corner and stayed there the rest of the night to wollo in self pity. Theodosia came over every so often to try and cheer him up but it didn't do anything.

"-I really am sorry.." Theodosia said, "I wish I could help."

"It's fine really.." Wilbur said downing his 3rd drink. "Enough about me... are you going to tell your parents that your a lesbian?"

"Yeah... soon, hopefully... I know that if I don't tell them soon, they'll marry me off to some random country, but I'm afraid if I do then... something bad will happen..." Theodosia said, picking at her fingernails.

"Hey, don't worry. There your parents, they'll love you no matter what, if they don't then they're not good parents. Or people in general, honestly," Wilbur said, putting his hand on Theodosia's shoulder.

"Thanks Wilbur," She said, smiling at him. The rest of the night was miserable for Wilbur, he got pretty drunk and sad. He had to have help getting to bed, he was so drunk!

Wilbur lay in bed, staring at the ceiling feeling slightly more sober than before. It was about 4 in the morning and he hadn't slept a wink. So he decided to float around the castle for a bit.

He decided to get some fresh air, and when he went outside he saw a figure sitting down on a rock by the pond  dangling their feet in the water. Wilbur heard the soft sound of sniffles and when he got closer he realised who it was...

Claire.....

Cliff hanger! Not really, but still!

I am very sorry, I haven't updated in ages. I had serious writers block with this. I know how I want this book to go, but I had trouble with the details.
