"King!" Luz exclaimed, the crash and scurrying of claws against the floor taunting her. She rushed over to the door, shaking and pulling at the doorknob, jiggling it until it finally opened.
She found the demon sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded by shards of something, in what seemed to be an office/bedroom.
Ghost ignored their hand-Sean bed and instead sat perched on one of the two windows with benches and celestial throw pillows, which sat in the back wall, a big and cluttered yet organized desk in the middle. It was brown and wooden, with a matching chair and an overstuffed cushion. Over the desk hung a shelf, lined with plants. Luz took a moment and found that they weren't some twisted, magical, or maniacal blossoms, but human herbs and succulents and plants, accompanied by a note on light brown parchment, written in a messy script that she could recognize anywhere. Willow must have given them to Amity.
But why those? Surely the botanical center at Hexside had more interesting specimens.
Luz shrugged it off and began to clean up the shards of what looked to be a photo frame. Actually, there were a lot of photographs in this room. They hung over her bed, only a twin with sun and moon comforters. They laid among scattered texts and novels that were spread around a small circular carpet that sat under two armchairs, angled toward each other but painfully empty.
She looked over to the bed and the wardrobe. Witchy Polaroids were strung on the walls, over some well-loved stuffed animals.
Then it hit her. These were her memories. The hidden fragments of Amity's mind were all here, thought scattered.
King must've broken some of her best memories if it was kept in a glass frame.
Luz kicked him out and said. "We'll deal with you later... please say you didn't leave any permanent damage."
He replied with a mere "weh", crossed his arms, and moved on.
She dug through the mess left by the demon, her hands etched with small scrapes and scars from the glass shards. King had done more than just break a frame, or even two. In what looked like an attempt to fix everything, he had knocked over the storm-cloud-shaped watering can and had soaked some of the images.
Luz gasped and ran over to try and fan out the magical Polaroids, the memories couldn't be hurt, but it was too late. They were damaged, Luz knew what that was like for damaged memories, deja vu from when Amity had turned Willow's memories to ash.
"Eda! I need your help!" she wailed, as Eda came rushing in, holding Owlbert like a sword, expecting some evil to defeat, but only finding Luz rushing to save what was left of the photographs.
"Oh, kid..." Eda said, her face in her palm. "Where's Boots?"
They heard a crash in the hallway.
"...that's probably her."
Amity was giggling and bumping her way through the antiques and heirlooms that lined the halls, getting dragged in by Eda and carefully tossed onto the twin bed.
"You guys... you're like the worst. I love you!" Amity said, her arms flailing, before tucking herself while giggling and letting ghost perch on her stomach.
"I thought you two would have learned to be more careful by now," Eda said with a sigh and a chuckle.
Luz sat by Amity and blushed, her hand on her chest without thinking.
"I don't want Luz to see you with your hand on my chest like that," Amity mumbled, giggling and complaining.
"I am Luz," she said softly.
