"How long was she left like this? Is it her fault? Is it my fault? Should I have stayed?" Luz rambled before she stopped and covered her mouth. Amity had been trapped in this house her whole life, and now she's making her relive it.The guardian's brilliant face looked almost sympathetic and moved from the door she was standing out towards another mirror that was hidden in the back. It was dusty and the frame of the mirror was wooden and carved with beautiful, small details. Flowers, butterflies... balloons.
Luz looked at the being and nodded, holding her hand as she went in this time.
The pair was in Hexside, but the halls were empty and gray, so tall and hallowing. There was no laughter, no magic, nothing. The banners of covens hung high above, pristine without a wrinkle in sight, reminding you where you were meant to be. The bell seemed to be ringing wildly and unstoppably but without a sound. Sometimes you could almost hear students and try to chase them... but it would fade as you got close. The only color in the place was Luz and the light she emanated, an aura that even the guardian would envy. No pranks were being pulled, Principal Bump was nowhere to be found... this is the kind of school Odalia would want.
Luz decided to make Eda proud and tear this place apart.
She unlocked the lockers and climbed up them to tear down the banners. She was choking back laughter, knowing how stupid she must look. Luz ruined the halls, laughing, as the guardian trialed behind with a gentle smile. She got to the front door and laughed and opened the massive doors, expecting more to ruin, but was met with a blinding light, color flooding the school and drowning the dark.
Luz laughed so hard she cried, spinning around with the guardian. She had no idea why she felt like this but threw her head back like a little kid and laughed and laughed and laughed, smiling with tears streaming down her face.
The being pulled her off to the side gently to watch the scene, a scene that Luz knew like the callouses on the sides of her fingertips.
Amity was off to the side, carrying books to her locker, trying not to let them weigh her down.
She was wearing an outfit that was so out of place for her, but she looked so happy in it. She had a white turtleneck on, tucked in a skirt made of a patchwork of different fabrics, all flowering over her like a spring day even on December 4th. It was covered with a baggy, soft brown cardigan that matched the small, not dyed pieces of hair.
She slammed the locker shut with her back and took a deep breath before looking towards the entrance of the hall. Luz had a huge bag weighing her down as she tried to skip to her, Willow and Gus trailed behind her, trying to make sure she didn't fall on her face.
Luz finally got to her locker and tried to catch her breath. Amity just smiled and giggled at her.
"Happy birthday!" Luz squealed and hugged her, almost lifting her.
Amity giggled again, the prettiest noise Luz had ever heard.
"I have a surprise for you!" She said, grabbing her arm and running to the cafeteria. Amity smiled and ran behind her.
Gus and Willow exchanged a knowing look and followed.
Present Luz looked upon this, a sense of bittersweet as the guardian took her.
Luz pulled out a homemade sheet cake with purple vanilla icing and chocolate cake, with small candies spelling out "Happy Birthday, Amity!".
Luz hugged her again.
"Cut it!"
Amity smiled and began to cut it, lacking in her usual grace. Her hands were covered in the cake and frosting and the slices she cut always fell with the icing on the plate.
