Tim, Brian, and Toby sat around the fire in silence. It was night now, and the air had turned cold. They were all tired and hungry, but none wanted to sleep, afraid of where they'd wake up.
Tim stared at the familiar white mask, and remembered all the shit he had been through because of it. How much therapy had he gone through? How many people had he lost? Somewhere in the woods, a twig snapped, and Tim wondered what he was more scared of, that thing, or the coyotes.
Brian pulled his hoodie tighter around his body.
"Do you think its watching us?"Tim nodded.
Toby looked up from the fire.
"Of c-c-course. It's been out there for-for a while now."Tim and Brian looked around, but saw nothing. Toby laughed.
"I'm j-j-just messing with you."Tim responded by throwing a stick at Toby, but the young man didn't even flinch when it hit him.
"Asshole. Don't joke about that."Toby shrugged and used the stick to poke at the fire some more.
"Seriously though, it probably is watching us."In the distance, another twig snapped.
