The boy's POV
The boy walked through the thick and thin crevices of Portorosso. The dark and light regions of the streets. The quiet and loud alleys of the town. Yet, the feeling of pain did not subside. The boy released a sigh before stopping to look behind him.

"Who's there?" the boy sighed, "I've been through a lot today and I don't want to be followed."

A moment of silence emerged until a dark silhouette rose from a nearby pile of trash. The boy leaned in to look closer. The silhouette was familiar. A tall figure, which caused the boy to flinch with fear. Are kidnap rates high in Portorosso? What if I get murdered today? Eh. My life sucks anyway.

"Hey..." the figure spoke. It was a guy. A somewhat familiar guy. "I'm Alberto." Alberto chuckled awkwardly while scratching the back of his head.

"Alberto? You're the guy who sold fishes to the shopkeeper at Portorosso convenience no?" the boy sighed with relief. No one was going to be murdered today.

"Y-yeah heh. That's me" Alberto chuckled again.

"Well......" the boy paused, attempting to think of a good way to ask the questions, "why are you..... y'know..... why are you..... why are you being so nice as to follow me home?"

Alberto's eyes widened with shock. "Uhhhhh just wanted to see if you're alright. Y'know?"

A moment of silence emerged once again.

Silence.

"If you wanted to know if I heard what the crowd of people was saying about me. Yes. I heard." the boy rolled his eyes.

"Yeah... well if it makes you feel better, sea monsters didn't use to be welcomed in Portorosso!" Alberto continued, "As a matter of fact I-" Alberto attempted to brag about his sea monster abilities but was cut off by the boy.

"Sea monsters? They're real?!?" the boy gasped in disbelief, his words trembled with discomfort.

"Y-yeah, have you never seen one before?" Alberto asked, trying to laugh it off.

"No... No, I haven't... I'm terrified of the idea of creatures in the water" The boy shivered.

"Oh..." a wave of disappointment filled Alberto's body.

The boy saw a sense of awkwardness fill the air and attempts to break the silence.

"It's getting late... how about I walk you home?" the boy offered.

"Nah. It's all good" Alberto said, pushing his hands forward in an 'It's fine' motion.

"Ok... well then... I'll see you around... Alberto." the boy smiled before walking back to his hotel.

A wave of regret surrounded the boy's body.

"Maybe I should have initiated the conversation more... maybe I should have asked more questions... Maybe I shouldn't have asked him why he was following me..."

•••

The boy collapsed on his bed and stared up at the ceiling. The small cracks and fractures on the wall stared back at him. He closed his eyes to examine his surroundings. He listened carefully as he heard the sound of children playing by the waterfall, the kicking of the football created a consistent beat throughout the hotel room.

Yet, this was disrupted by the sound of clinking by the hotel room door. The door opened.

"We're home. Dad and I went to grab some dinner for tonight. Takeout time!" t boy's mom cheered, illuminating the whole room with joy and satisfaction. "Ummm hello??? 不回答嗎?(no answer?)"

"I'm tired." the boy replied. "But thank you" he added. With his eyes closed, he could only hear the faint murmurs of his parents talking and the TV. Not long after, the boy drifted off into deep slumber.

Alberto's POV
"I'm terrified of the idea of creatures in the water..." those words repeated in Alberto's head as he made his way back home. The dark clouds shielded the sky and consistent rumbles screeched through the fluffy grey clouds.

Pitter.

Patter.

Pitter.

Patter.

Patches of purple faded onto Alberto's skin, trickling down his arm to reveal a line of purple until his whole body was covered with a bright violet hue. Scales replaced skin. Claws replaced skin.

Alberto arrived back in the comfort of his home and looked at his reflection in front of the bathroom mirror. He sneered at himself in the mirror to reveal his sharp teeth. What he did, his reflection followed. He then looked deep into his eyes to observe the bright green color staring back at him.

"Am I that scary?"

The rattling of the door creaked, revealing Massimo.

"Alberto!" Massimo yelled from the living room. "What did I say about leaving your clothes in the middle of the couch?!? The couch is for sitting. NOT putting"

"Sorry, dad!" Alberto rolled his eyes, continuing to examine his monstrous physique. If only the boy knew...

•••

"Dinner time!" Massimo alerted.

The table revealed two fresh plates of Trenette al Pesto.

"My favorite!" Alberto rubbed his hands in anticipation.

"Bon Appétit," Massimo said, displaying a small smile towards Alberto.

"Bon appa what?" Alberto raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Bon Appétit," Massimo shrugged, "it's what you say before you eat, no?"

"Huh" Alberto looked at his plate of Trenette Al Pesto with interest and murmured "bon appétite!"

The sound of munching and chewing continued on the dining table, until Alberto opened his mouth.

"Dad... if you were a sea monster and you wanted to befriend someone..... someone who's not a fan of sea monsters... How would you approach them?" Alberto stutters as he noticed that he didn't prepare how to structure his question beforehand.

Silence.

"I would try to understand why they're scared of sea monsters." Massimo paused to think, "Back when I met you and Luca, I didn't know anything about sea monsters. I just thought that they ate people"

Alberto's eyes twitched.

"Eh heh" Alberto giggles awkwardly, "well I'm glad you don't think that anymore."

"Let's not forget the time when we were catching fish together. I tried to catch a sea monster with my harpoon... It was seaweed" Massimo laughed.

"Imagine if that was me in the water!" Alberto shivered from the thought.

Massimo laughed again.

"If I were you I would figure out why they're scared of sea monsters and methods to help them overcome this issue, why?" Massimo's eyes widened, "do we have a sea monster hater in town?!"

"No!" Alberto blurted with fear, "Nah! Just wondering"

Massimo readjusted his seat to continue eating his portion of pasta. Alberto sighed quietly before continuing to devour the pesto. For heaven knows what Massimo would have done if he found out about the boy's family's hatred for sea monsters.
