Chapter 4

Lucas' POV:

It's been a week since Maya's mom... Ya know.

I never saw Maya this down.

When I even think about what happened after I came into her apartment that day..

I was walking out of the elevator and heard screams and crying.

I thought that Maya was in trouble or is doing something to herself. I don't know..

Nobody opened the door so I kicked it and stuff. Then I remembered that the key was in the plant next to the door.

When I came in I saw Maya laying on the ground crying, screaming and hurting.

I looked at the couch and saw her mom..

After I wrapped my arms around Maya there were police and doctors.

She was in my arms this whole time.

She lives at Rileys now.

Since her grandma isn't here anymore or her dad. She's not really talking about them.

The days were horrible.

She wouldn't come out of her room or wouldn't stop crying.

Riley and I planned to get her out of here today. To go to the park or to the mall.

Just anything to get her out of the building. She needs the fresh air and people around her. To show her that life goes on.

I'm walking into the Matthews apartment and buzz in.

"Hello Mr and Mrs Matthews" I greet them.

They smile and say "They're upstairs"

I nod and walk upstairs.

I hear shouting from the bathroom. Oh no..

I ran to the door and smash it open.

"Maya no!!" Riley says with tears.

"Let me!!" She shouts at her.

I walk over to Maya and take the razor and do it in the trash.

"Are you completely out of your mind?" I ask Maya.

She stands up crying and hits my shoulder "why did you do that?"

I put my arms around her and hug her.

"Baby please calm down" I whisper.

"No no. You don't understand" she says against my chest.

I look at Riley and she's still crying.

I open one arm and hug them both.

We're sitting in Riley's room. Maya is by the window with a blanket.

"Did you calm down yet?" I ask her.

She doesn't say anything. She just looks out the window.

"Maya.. Can you please talk to us?" Riley says.

"There's nothing to talk about" she says.

"Yes there is" I stand up and walk over to her.

I sit next to her and put my hand on her leg.

"You were about to cut yourself" My voice cracks.

She looks at me with tears in her eyes "so what?"

"Maya stop! Just stop! Don't you see what you're doing to yourself? What you're doing to us?" I say trying not to cry.

"What I'm doing to you? I'm not doing anything! I just lost my mother!" She shouts.

She pulls my hand away and stands up.

"We know that! But you have us. We're family" Riley says.

Maya starts to laugh "hah family? I don't have a family"

"Maya don't say that!" I say.

"You know that that's not true! You always were like a sister to me! You're like a daughter to my parents" Riley says.

"Funny thing. We aren't sisters and your parents aren't my parents. Guess what? I don't have any. I'm an... I'M AN ORPHAN!" She shouts crying.

"NO" Riley cries.

Maya then runs out of the room.
