"Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to come to today's press conference. Today the police are releasing the information we have gathered so far in the ongoing killings executed by the person the media has dubbed, the Family Killer.
We're hoping that by making this information public, anyone that has information will help us catch the killer and make our streets safer. The number to call with any anonymous tips will be shared after the conference."
Cassidy stared at her screen as Chief Potts talked. She had expected Wyatt to give the address as he was the lead detective, but for a case as high-profile as this, Chief was probably the better choice. However, she could see Wyatt standing not far behind Chief on the stage. The two Agents were there as well.
"Based on evidence the police has collected and the profiling done by the National Intelligence Unit, we have a strong suspicion of the suspect in the killings. However, she has remained elusive to the police and so we are asking the public's help in locating her.
The suspect's name is Rose Monte. She's a twenty-five-year-old individual. The suspect has dark black hair and brown eyes. We believe her to be highly dangerous and any sightings should be reported immediately. Do not engage with the suspect. Anyone that has information regarding her recent whereabouts are asked to call in."
Everything faded in the background as Cassidy stared at the pictures of Rose that were displayed on the television. One was clearly a CCTV picture, but it was the other picture that had Cassidy staring at the screen. It was a mug shot.
She remembered the Agents saying something about Rose being arrested, but in the chaos of her being arrested, being in the holding cell and then cleared of the charges, it had slipped her mind. Why had Rose been arrested? All the Agents had said was that Rose had assaulted someone.
The mug shot showed a younger Rose than the one who had visited Cassidy. She couldn't have been more than twenty in this photo. Cassidy felt her heart hurt. What had Rose gone through in all this time that they had been apart? Was her sister really as innocent as she thought her to be? Was Rose a completely different person now?
The pictures stayed on the screen as Chief continued to talk. It was out in the public now. There was no taking it back. Everyone would be looking for Rose now.
Cassidy sunk further into her couch as she listened to the rest of the conference. She had taken the day off work at Wyatt's insistence. He said that the press worked fast and that they would find her before the day was out. Staying in her apartment for the rest of the week was probably the best option unless she wanted a run-in with the press.
The thought of being couped up for the rest of the week wasn't great. But the thought of being ambushed by the press was even worse. She had already called her parents and given them a heads up about the press conference and that she wasn't going to be visiting this week.
There was nothing to do now but sit and watch the television. After announcing the news, Chief opened the floor to questions from the reporters.
"How long has Rose been a suspect?" one of the reporters asked.
"What makes you think she's the murder?"
"What evidence do you have against her?
"How is she choosing her victims?"
The questions kept getting more and more worse. Cassidy couldn't take it anymore and shut off her television. She was sure there were going to be numerous articles. Maybe she'd give them a read later. But honestly reading more about the case was not something she wanted to do.
Sitting here thinking about it all was going to drive her crazy. She needed to get her mind off everything. Her eyes ran across her sketch book that was lying on the coffee table. There was a new design she was trying out with her cakes, but it wasn't perfected yet. Maybe now was the time to perfect it. She grabbed the sketch book and headed to the kitchen.
