Rose laughed as Cassidy reeled from the confession her sister had just made. All her hopes had been shattered with that one sentence. Sure, Cassidy was starting to believe Rose was the killer. She had even blamed Rose for the mess her life had been recently. But to know that the little girl she had spent her childhood with had grown up to murder people, it was almost too much for Cassidy to take.
"How could you?" Cassidy whispered softly.
Cassidy looked at her sister, no longer seeing the girl she knew. This woman in front of her was a stranger – a killer.
"How could you kill all those innocent people?"
"It was easy quite honestly. I expected it to be a bit more difficult. Once you get the hang of it once, it's easier after that."
Cassidy felt sick to her stomach.
"How can you talk about killing someone so happily?"
"It's not that of a deal Cassie," Rose said rolling her eyes. "You make it seem like it's some big deal."
"It is a big deal!" Cassidy shouted.
How could Rose act so nonchalantly about the horrible acts she had committed? Did she not realize the severity of the things she had done?
"Always so dramatic," Rose said, standing.
She walked over to Leon and Martha.
"You could have brought her up better," she lectured.
She pulled tie straps from her pocket and threw it at Leon.
"Put it on her."
Her father didn't argue and locked her mother's hands behind her back and locked her legs as well. Rose then did the same to him. Cassidy was left unbound, but she wasn't sure for how long.
"I should probably get Seth. It'll finally be a reunion," Rose mused.
"No!" Martha shouted.
"Leave Seth alone," Cassidy pleaded.
Seth shouldn't have to witness any of what was happening here. He should remain hidden for as long as it took Wyatt to get here and save them. Cassidy hoped he was close by.
"So protective. Something our parents weren't," Rose stated, turning back to Cassidy.
"Why are you doing this?" Cassidy asked.
She didn't understand how her sister could be a killer. What had changed Rose into this person?
"I'm sure you're all dying to know."
Rose paced the room, never taking her eyes off Cassidy's parents. Cassidy waited, hoping Rose would finally tell her the truth.
"Do you remember me?" Rose asked.
Except she wasn't asking Cassidy. Her gaze was focused on Martha and Leon. Cassidy turned to her parents confused. Had they met Rose before?
"I don't think we've met," her father answered, just as confused as Cassidy.
"We did meet. When I was fourteen. Two weeks before you adopted Cassidy."
What? Her parents had met Rose? If Rose had been fourteen that would have been almost a year after the fire. How had Martha and Leon met Rose?
"The little girl," Martha whispered so softly Cassidy barely heard her.
Everyone turned to face her. Martha looked up at Rose, pain radiating from her eyes.
"The little girl with the pigtails at the orphanage. That was you?" her mother asked.
"You do remember me," Rose said, her voice oddly emotional.
