I woke up to Toby banging in the kitchen. My couch was comfy and I finally fell asleep around midnight.
"Toby!" I whisper yelled. He didn't hear me. That deaf little nasty boy.
I had to actually get up from my comfy spot to go shut him up. He was up on the old counters and had his nose shoved inside a cupboard.
"You woke me up, Toby." I said sort of grumpy.
"Don't hurt me please. Just looking for a bowl. I saw some fruit trees outside." He said innocently.
"Huh? I want fruit." I said and walked towards the sliding door. I saw a pear tree. Funny.
"There is a pear tree, and an apple tree. I think I even saw a hazelnut tree." Said Toby putting back all the stuff he got out.
"Cool. I am too tired for stuff right now. I just want my I-pad." I put it in the truck. I hope it never broke.
Mom's phone let off a ding and she rolled over on the couch and exhaled. Her hair flopped forward and she lay face down on her pillow. I checked her phone and a text read, "We checked through all your stuff and only a few things got scratches if you don't mind. But one little heart shaped lamp shattered, sorry. When do u want us by?"
I was guessing it was the moving trucks. I woke up mom (risky, by the way) and told her someone texted.
"So Toby went outside because he found some fruit trees. pears, orange and hazelnuts I think. Or it may have been apples." I told her looking around for my contacts.
"Is that breakfast then?" She asked trying to keep her mop out of here eyes.
"Guess so. I'm going to join him since I can see again." I said after I put those contacts in. Mom just nodded and told me to grab a jacket. Even though it was seven am in the summer and it was sunny and warm outside.
I got one anyway since I just woke up and I'd only been awake for a couple minutes. Toby was up high in a tree picking pears. He got a few good ones.
"Can I pick from the apple tree? I see a bucket over there." I asked.
"Sure. Make sure to rinse the bucket in the creek." He said quickly realising what he even said. "By the way, we have a little creek."
"Uhm. Cool, thanks." Confused, I grabbed the bucket and looked behind the fruit trees. there was a little downhill spot that I heard a small trickle of water. The water was pretty and clear. It was nice and cold too and felt amazing on my feet. That was just then I realised I wasn't wearing shoes. Morning does things to my head and always finds some way to surprise me.
I started picking apples and Toby started climbing down the tall pear tree. I could smell the pears from one whole tree over. I looked over at him struggling to actually get down with a strainer bowl in one hand. I got down to help him but I started walking over and he dropped the pears and slipped. I started running but knew I'd only make it there in time to see him on the ground. He slipped, twisted around and slammed his side rib on a branch. That slowed him down enough for me to get under him. Big mistake. I got clobbered and he crashed onto my shoulder.
"Oh my gosh! Rebekah, sorry sorry. Ouch!" He exclaimed and tried his hardest to catch his breath while crawling off me.
"Are you okay? Holy crap that hurt." I said on the dewy grass trying not to start cussing.
Toby started softly crying and clutching his left side. I couldn't get up right away to see if he was okay because my right clavicle was going to definitely bruise.
"Are you - sniffle- okay Becca? I'm sorry for -hic- smashing you" He said starting to gain control of his tears.
"Yeah, you?" I asked sitting up and making faces.
