Hello all! It's been what? 4 years or something? AND IM BACK AT IT. I am a grown adult now, yes. But is that keeping me from writing this anyways? Nope. But o well. I got inspired by people reading it still and then re-reading it myself. So here I am, kind of ashamed of all the little mistakes I made in the previous chapters from accidental POV switches to spelling or grammatical errors. Maybe someday I'll fix those but for now I hope you can read past them. (I am dyslexic and English is my second language so sadly there may still be many mistakes, but I am trying.) The chapter releases are going to be rather inconsitent as they are to be released whenever I have had enough time to write them.
Just some context for the coming chapters: After the apocalypse initiated, Zariah was hit in the head with a brick. This caused her to loose most of her memory.
I hope you enjoy and thanks for reading as always. <3
When Zariah woke up in a dark alley, she didn't know where she was or what had happened. There was noise coming from the street in front of her, but not much, which she blamed on the fact that it was already dark. The only thing she remembered was that her siblings had come back after their father's death and sitting outside in the cold after her father's funeral. That was all she knew. But if she was here, Diego, Allison, Vanya, Klaus and Luther had to be there too, right?
"Diego?" She called out as she stepped onto the street. "Vanya?" She looked around frantically, there were old cars, shops that looked outdated, people in clothes from the 60's or something and a whole lot of people who looked at her with a weird face.
"You seem lost." a police officer stalked towards Zariah from where he had been sitting in the car, she only now noticed at the other side of the road.
"Where am I?" Zariah questioned the officer, who had one hand behind his back, trying to sign his partner over without her noticing, but she was smarter than that.
"Dallas." The officer responded as his colleague joined them.
"And what- and what year?" Zariah was looking for away out. She knew how she sounded. She sounded like a mad man.
"1959. November 19th 1959." The other police officer provided hesitantly.
"No, no, no. That's not possible. It's 2019. It has to be." Zariah denied as she started to back away, her mind clouded in shock.
"I think you should come with us." The first police officer told her as he reached his hand out to grab her, but she flinched away.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'll wait here for my siblings." Zariah huffed, but a sudden tiredness overtook her as she fell to her knees.
"Okay, that's it. If you don't come willingly, we'll arrest you." The officer who had joined them grabbed his handcuffs and forced Zariah's hands behind her back only to cuff them. After that it was rather blurry. She knew she was taken somewhere, put in bright white clothes and locked in a room with no windows. Only a singular lamp was giving her light. There was a bed in the corner of the room and a toilet on the other side. For some reason it made her anxious. Her breath picked up as she started slamming against the door. It felt like a déjà vu as she cried, calling for her siblings.
She didn't know how long she was locked in that madhouse. She got food three times a day, therapy sessions four times a week and some time in the garden once every week. The rest of the time she would spend in her room, often talking to her siblings she figured only she could see.
"It's been four years in here." Ben provided for her as she thought back at how long she had been stuck. There was a bracelet in her hands from that day's activity.
"Four years? Lovely." A soft smile sat on her lips as she looked at everyone in the room. "Why are you here?" She looked at every single one of her siblings in turn as she asked the question. For some reason the only one who wasn't around her age was Five, but she guessed that it was because she had never met him as an adult after his disappearance, but that didn't make sense since she could see Ben's adult form.
"We're not really here, remember? We're in your mind." Diego always seemed like the soft boy she had once known as he stroke her cheek with his fingers. She leaned into the touch, but it didn't help that her head fazed right through the hand. There was a loud bang on her door as she looked up.
"Yard time!" Klaus clapped in his hands happily. The door flung open as the girl stood up and walked out, following the nurse. When she looked behind her she could see a guard follow her and behind that guard were her siblings. They were chatting among each other but she could understand their words.
"Is anyone else outside? I would like to talk to someone else other than my siblings." Zariah asked the nurse. The woman turned her head so she could see the younger girl from the corner of her eye before turning it back to look ahead. They were already only a few steps away from the door that led to the garden.
"I'm sorry. There are visitors, so you'll be the only one to go out today." She was always kind, but Zariah never seemed to remember her name.
"Nothing to do about that." Zariah smiled politely as she passed the woman to enter the garden. "Who is being visited today? Is it Josh again? His brother is around often."
"No, it's for another man, he came in around sixty days ago. His kid brother apparently." The nurse responded. Zariah looked at Five who was staring right back at her.
"That's nice." She hummed as she sat down on the ground cross-legged and started picking the flowers that were growing on the ground, starting to weave them into a flower crown.
