6/ I got stronger
and sometimes
played with my brothers and sisters
or visited my mother —
but mostly I stayed with soft voice
together on the sofa
flexing my paws in the fuzzy afghan
watching television – we liked nature shows
if they were not violent.
Sometimes soft voice would stare at me
"Poor little runt," she'd say, "Don't know where
you came from – none of the others are black
and I've never seen a kitten with brown eyes."
And I would purr.
