it was just soft

my eyes opened.
For the first time I saw!
silver
and blue
and stripes
and white
and smooth
and fluffy
and grey
and spots
and orangey pink
all moving
scrambling
squirming
under and
over and
on top of me

Bit of background —"Runt" was written a while back, intended as a read-aloud picture book with fourteen illustrations, hence fourteen parts. However, project didn't go forward with illustrator as planned (at least not so far) — came back to mind recently, probably catalyzed by all the pink Percy content in Beauty's Gift? Images here from sundry sources, i.e., some of my scribbles (like the one above), may also use a few of my feline photos with original Runt, plus some classic paintings from animal portraitists, etc. — so a mixed bag, not at all what was intended originally, but giving a kind of illustration vibe, at least?
