Humming.
That's all you can hear once you enter the still apartment room and it can be quite peaceful. Especially if you're sitting on a rocking chair, sitting in front of a glass balcony door, and holding a small bundle of joy in your arms. My ears are behind my head and my feet are lightly touching the wooden ground as I make myself rock a bit while holding my little one close to my chest. The sight of the city of Zootopia in front of us is breathtaking. The sun is set and it looks like as if it's sitting right on top of the city. All the buildings are shining off from the sunlight and it's creating beautiful colors all over the city.
We live in an apartment complex and it's not as bad as my old one. There's a walk in kitchen, a small living room big enough for four people, a balcony that has the perfect angle of the city, and a master bedroom. Moving to a more suitable home for my baby was a great idea and I'm so glad that I don't have to worry about the space or the crazy neighbors. If I stayed there with my baby, I would've been so stressed out that I would be losing my gray fur, and I know that's not a good look for a first time mother.
Suddenly, my ears twitch up as I can hear a jingle of keys by the door, and the lock on it is being turn to the right. My ears twitch a little bit more as I can hear the handle turn and the door swing open. I tilt my head up toward the ceiling and took one long sniff then finally calmed down once I realize who's home.
"Welcome home, Nick." I said with a smile as I continue to stare the beautiful sight in front of me. Footsteps approach from behind me and a pair of hands land on my shoulders.
"Hey, Carrots." Nick greet and he lean down to the side of my face then gave me a peck on my cheek. "Everyone at the station is wondering if you're doing alright with handling our little troublemaker."
I looked down at my bundle of joy and hummed a bit. "We've been alright, huh?" I bounce the little one in my arms a bit and they squirm a bit then let out a small squeak. Nick went around the rocking chair and lean toward the baby's face to look at them closer.
"Hi, Tiny. You're as small as your mama, you know?" I rolled my eyes a bit and the both of us can hear a small squeak come from the little one. I awed while Nick chuckled and he gave them kisses all over their face. I place my paw on his head then gave him a pat and Nick got up from his knees. "Looks like I'm cooking tonight, huh?"
I nodded as I look at his emerald green eyes. "Yup and you already know what I want."
He let out a laugh. "Carrots. We've been married for five years! Of course I know what you want." He lean down to place his hands on his knees and our faces are only inches away. His eyes are meeting mine and we have a small staring contest. "You want a piece of me, huh?"
"Ha ha. Very funny." I said sarcastically and gave him a peck on his pointy nose. "Now, hurry up and cook something, you sly fox. This bunny is hungry." He gave me a small smirk and pressed his finger on my nose for a moment then got up from his kneeling position. And he left to go to the kitchen. As I watch Nick walk away, the sunlight is shining upon his wedding ring on his left hand, and I can't help but admire the sight. I'll never forget how we got married and how the wonderful years went by. It almost felt like it went by so much like a movie but the ending was only the beginning of our new lives. And now, we've created a new chapter in our lives, which starts with this little one.
Suddenly, my baby began to let out a small whimper, which I caught with my big ears. And then, they let out a cry. I quickly turn my attention back to them and start to quietly shush the baby.
"Aww. What's the matter?" I held the baby in my hands and have them meet my eyes. "Is someone finally awake from their nap?" They continue to wail and I cooed at them. "It's okay. It's okay." They slowly opened their eyes as they squint a bit in irritation from the sunlight, but once they fully opened their eyes, I'm met with my own colored eyes.
