The cold winter wind bellowed by, and the small soft snowflakes fell down on to the ground,layering every inch of the front lawn and backyard in a body of pure white powder, with a few leafs daring to peak out.
Over at the large glass wall, that looked right out into the lush green forest, Kai sat at her piano keyboard after waking up from an unsettling dream, and extreme heat, even though it was as cold as a freezer. Her eyes drew as she got lost in the song.
Kai Violet Blue O'Karios, loved nothing more than her family, food, her best friend and most importantly music.Ever since the age of 3 she had always dreamt of becoming a singer and had started learning the piano at that very young age. To most, she may seem like your average teenager with just a sparkle of extreme talent when playing the piano and singing, but there's way more to Kai that sets her far apart from "just average"....
On the other side of the glass wall, behind a large berry bush stood a large black figure watching and listening to the girl on the upper floor of the two story housr.Her voice was heard from the crack in the window. Her beautiful soft voice led it there.
The black figure got down lower to observe the girl without being seen. It felt drawn to the human in an odd way, like a calling or strong pull per se.
It sat and watched,and observed how her fingers gracefully moved along the piano, how her eyes closed at every note, feeling the emotions of the song, how she rocked slightly back and forth completely in tuned and focused.
The moment ended as soon as it started.
Kai's door flew open and snapped her out of her trance from singing. She turned around wide eyed and heart pounding from the shock just to find her exhausted best friend Flora Van Bùtch.
Flora's straight black hair stood in a messy pony tale,with lose strands rebelling against staying in the hair tie, her light brown eyes had dark circles underneath that screamed,"I NEED SLEEP!"
"You look like crap "Flora scoffed standing in the door frame catching her breath from whatever happened before she got there, "says the person who looks like they've just ran a marathon,and tackled a giant sized grizzly bear." Kai retorted with a small smile, but before Flora could reply a small figure emerged from within the hallway ,and ran into Kai's arms with excitement and laughter.
"Yeah...That's the bear i ran a marathon for."Flora said tiredly throwing herself onto Kai's bed,and nuzzling her face into a pillow as she drifted off to sleep.
"Don't mind her Flame, your big sister's been quite busy these days." Kai tells Flora's little brother,who sat on her lap playing with the keys on the piano,"i know. Some top secret stuff." He said and Kai chuckled.
Flame was a little mini version of his big sister, the only thing that set these two apart were the colours of their eyes. Flora had the lightest brown eyes, where you could see the specks of detail within them, whereas Flame had a almost red-ish orange mixed with blue coloured eyes, equally as light that you could see the details in them.
Flame's eyes brought Kai happiness, because she was reliefed to know that she wasn't the only person living with a weird eye colour.The day Kai met flame she could immediately understand why his parents named him Flame. His eyes held mystery and courage, a flame so bright and daring that when he grows up people would be intimidated, but for now his adorable 7 year old self looked as innocent can be.
"Flo I've got a question."Kai said and Flora turned onto her back and looked straight up at the ceiling, "yes?"she replied. Kai spun around on her chair with Flame still in her lap, laughing.
"Have you ever had those days where you suddenly wake up, soaked in your own sweat from getting so hot at night. Like extremely hot, almost as if your body was on fire, and had like this electric sensation just wake you up before you burn to ash type of hot?" she asks smiling innocently and waiting expectantly for Flora's response. The room fell quiet. Flora sat up staight from the bed staring wide eyed at Kai, who simply just continued smile, as if what she just asked was not weird at all.
"Bloody hell Kai,what happend?"she asked and Kai smiled and shook her head,"nothing really. I was just asking because that's what it felt like when i woke up, I changed obviously, but im still getting that weird feeling inside me and i dont know whether i should love it or hate it, because right now im pretty sure its both."she says smiling sheepishly,"that explains why you were at the piano,you only do that when you're worked up."Flora says pacing up and down the room while biting her nails,"get dressed we're going for coffee...hey spark! You wanna come with?"she asks her little brother, snapping her fingers to get his attention away from the piano.
Flame looked at his sister annoyed"I dont like that name Flo"he protests and his sister frowned and kneeled down infront of him,"and i dont like the name Flora, its the name of some butter in South Africa yet here we are. Listen you know i love you and one day you'll realise why im calling you spark"she says to him and walks out the room.
Kai watched as her best friend left feeling worried for her. Flora had become alot more restless and easily annoyed ever since school break started, Kai had tried bringing the topic up many times but failed miserably.
Flame frowned while climbing off Kai's lap to let her get ready, "hey come here."she said to him in a soft tobe. He turned around with tears brimming his eyes.The sight made Kai's heart ache, she picked him up and sat him down on the desk where she done her homework,which now stood bare because there were no books messing it up.
"You wanna know a secret?"she asked him and he shook his head yes sniffling, a small tear escaped from his eyes so Kai cupped his face in her hands and wiped it away with her thumbs.
"It takes a spark to create a magnificent blazing hot fire, and i have no doubt in my mind that when you get older, that spark will ignite such a hot blazing fire that will roar so loud, it will burn fear into your enemies...dont be sad or upset with your sister, I'll speak to her okay."she comforts him,and engulfed him in a warm hug.
"Alright enough with the dilly dalling,get your little butt downstairs, I'll be down in a few seconds."she said more happily and watched as the small boy energetically run out her room.
After closing her door she walked up to the glass wall and starred outside at the beautiful forest,she felt as if something was out there calling for her to come.
She looked even closer and saw a large black shadow running with the speed of light behind a tree.Kai laughed with herself,because she had noticed this shadow alot of times ever since school break started.
"Oogy's at it again....God I think im going mad."she said to herself shaking it off and walking off to the bathroom to get ready, assuming that whatever she saw, was a figment of her imagination.
