I used to have a caring mother and father, we were a happy family me, Ravo, mom, and dad. We were a close-knit bunch, always together doing something even if it was going for runs in the forest. My dad was a griffin one of the lasts while mom was a witch and everything was perfect till the day dad died.
After that mom was never the same again she changed completely, stopped caring about me and Ravo, and was never home. She pretty much moved out so it's just me and my little brothers and sister living here in our two-bedroom house in the woods.
My dad had bought a nice little cabin in the woods so that we can shift freely without worry and every night we would run the perimeter of our property to make sure our scent was strong to warn off others. Since dad died I go on perimeter runs by myself now.
It was three years after my dad died that even though I was only ten I still understood why my mom was never home and what she was doing out there. That's how I ended up having two more siblings they were the product of what my mom was busy doing instead of taking care of her children.
I wasn't mad though because they were not gonna ever be alone, plus I love my brother and sister to bits, I was mad that my mom wasn't taking responsibility for her actions or of her duties as a mother, as a parent. Because she only came by to drop off a bundle of blankets at least that's what she had done with my brother and sister.
She just showed up and dropped them off then left again and didn't return. So I stepped up to take care of myself and my siblings, even Ravo stepped up a little bit more to help. We go out and scavenge whatever we can to make sure my brothers and sister have what they needed first before I start to look for myself.
Luckily because my mom is a witch, I am half-witch so I enchanted all the backpacks in the house to have the space capacity of a large duffle bag so that when we go out scavenging I can bring back as much as possible and won't have to leave useful stuff behind.
At first, it was hard taking my siblings with me to go scavenging with me till I was able to get my hands on a couple of wagons now it's easy because while they sit in the wagon Ravo can pull it with him while I have my wagon for the bigger and heavier things we find. When we're scavenging through things to take back with us they just sit there out of the way and danger of getting hurt or lost.
At the time I couldn't wait till Ash and Idria got older so that we could have brought even more back from our trips. Since my mom could have cared less about us and I had decided to step up and take care of my siblings I got to name them, I'm glad because if it was up to my mom they wouldn't even have had proper names she would have just called them kid one and kid two or something way worse.
That didn't matter to me anymore, what mattered then was making sure that we had two times as much stuff as last winter since that winter was going to be worse with the storm that was heading our way. That storm was going to make it nearly impossible to go out for anything, especially with the younger ones, it's a risk I was not willing to take.
Luckily there was a second-hand store that we always stopped at first since the owner always had stuff that no one wanted, so she would let pus go through it before she threw it out. Whenever we had filled our backpacks up with everything useful to us in the fabric are we would switch to the bigger and heavier section till we got everything that was of use to us for the years to come.
Every time we had left there our backpacks would be full with all sorts of items that we needed and we would sit them with the diaper bag inside of the wagon and grab the other set of backpacks to make sure that we had all that we needed emergencies included. That was just the store for clothes and blankets, sometimes appliances too.
My favorite store was a small grocery store that was managed by a complete idiot who would throw out boxes of perfectly unexpired canned food, which is a jackpot for us. when we went there we always headed out to the back of the store so that we wouldn't get caught taking it. we were so lucky that that was the time when they put out a whole variety of canned goods that were still edible, vegetables, fruit, meat, soup, beans, and other stuff.
By the time we were done gathering all the food, we had filled up another two backpacks just to make sure we had got everything before we headed to where the lumber yard is. Back then kids weren't allowed without a parent or guardian so I always had to sneak inside and gather the wood that way and then head back home when I was done so that we could start working on our workbooks that I had gathered for us to keep up with our learning while I cooked lunch.
Nothing else happened that year well except getting the twins dropped off at my doorstep with no sign of my- I mean the egg donor, but that was pretty much the norm so there wasn't anything surprising at all sadly.
Anyway that was eight years ago, now I'm 18 and this is my life and I hope you enjoy it.
