"I just can't believe him!" you exclaimed angrily as you walked out to sit beside your lifelong best friend, by the outer porch steps.

The evening was fairly warm, but there was a continuous momentum of cool breeze in the air, dancing by every so often, making the temperature rather enjoyable.

It wasn't too warm, and it wasn't too cold.

Your beautiful red dress fluttered slightly in the wind, but you held it down with your hands - not that you cared about your outfit anymore. You were dressed to perfection, but you had recently learnt that it had all gone to waste.

The young man that you had been dating for some time, Brian, had found a way to ruin your relationship straight after an enjoyable Christmas. You didn't know whether he had done it intentionally or not, but you were sure about the fact that you wanted to slap him for being such a shameless cheater.

If you'd known you were simply one of many girls in his little game, you would have cussed him out a lot sooner.

You'd learnt that he had been playing you right before you'd left to meet him at a New Year's Eve party, and part of you was thankful that the pig wasn't going to be your New Year's kiss.

Not that you would be getting one anyway, at that point.

Then again, it wasn't as though you cared.

The same couldn't have been said about your timeless best friend, Michael, because he cared about it a great deal. He cared about you, so of course he cared about everything that had to do with you.

Everyone knew that he was Michael Jackson, and that his time was always shared - yet somehow he had never failed to make time for you. He was by your side so often that you never felt as though you were sharing him at all.

He was always there, and you loved him for that. But your closeness was no surprise, because you had more or less grown up together, after having lived in the same area for quite a fair bit of time.

Of course, now that you both were older, you had branched out in different directions, but that did nothing to change your strong friendship.

No, in fact, it was safe to say that you were even closer now.

After you had driven your point across to Brian, you had given Michael a call, just so that you could get it off of your chest - much like he did whenever he'd had troubles of his own. You hadn't expected him to drop everything to come and see you, but he was Michael - he was going to be there for you, even if it meant putting everything else in his life on hold.

And that was what brought you back to the present moment.

It was nearing midnight, so you knew it wasn't going to be a very eventful New Year's moment this time.

Well, that's what you thought.

"I hate to say it, (Y/N), but I told you so," he shrugged, shifting his gaze to your distraught form. "I told you he was rotten from the start,"

"I wish I could forget that, because it just makes me feel all the more stupid," you groaned. "Why do I always make bad decisions?"

"Because every decision you make is the exact opposite of every piece of advice I try to offer you," he snickered.
