The sun had long set, and the skies were now pitch black, illuminated only by the twinkling stars.
It was the end of yet another working day, a routine that was no different from the one you had been following for two whole years - that was how long you had been working with the studio company that had been the creative field for one of the greatest artists to have ever graced the earth, Michael Jackson.
Though you worked with the studio, you didn't quite fall under Michael's employment - you fell under the employment of his manager, Frank.
Since you specialized in the marketing field, you interacted only with Michael and Frank, hardly ever mixing with anyone else at the studio.
Frank was very much like a father figure to you, just with the dominant traits of a good friend. He had taken a liking to you, right from day one, and he had been looking out for you ever since. He always made sure you were safe, respected, and comfortable in your working environment - and that had endeared him to you. He had this pure sort of love for you - one that didn't have to be romantic to be unconditional.
He always had your back, and you were extremely grateful for it. If he hadn't been your employer, you were sure you wouldn't have lasted very long in that field of work. It was his fatherly encouragement that kept you motivated and inspired.
Michael, on the other hand, was someone that you shared an interesting bond with. The dynamic was identical to that of a crush - he almost certainly had a crush on you, you had quite the crush on him, but neither of you had acted on it.
The crazy thing was that everyone knew you fancied each other, yet nothing had come of it. It had been that way for nearly a year, and it was beginning to feel as though it would remain uncovered for a very long time.
There was always tension, whenever you and Michael were in the same room, or whenever you were within close proximity of each other - yet you had somehow learnt how to ignore it.
Frank knew it, all too well, but you had specifically asked him to pretend as though he didn't. You constantly aimed to make things as inconspicuous as possible, so you did your best to have everything feel normal - even though it wasn't.
Anyone could tell that you and Michael didn't only see yourselves as colleagues, but it's not like anyone else had a say. If something was to happen between the two of you, it was going to have to be initiated by one of you.
However, that wasn't something that happened to be on your mind, at the present moment, because what you were mentally preoccupied with was the fact that it was Christmas Eve.
Though you didn't have any big plans, for the evening, you were excited to see the massive Christmas Tree that stood in the center of the city. Travelling down to see the work of art had become somewhat of a personal tradition for you. Every Christmas Eve, you would journey down to the central part of the city, just to bask in the stunning lights that embraced the seasonal tree.
