"So, is this a part of my training?" Nezuko asked as she jogged alongside Keizo
In return he chuckled, "Oh no, we just have to get there."
Nezuko nodded silently grimacing, this was already hard enough for her. Within the last week or so Nezuko has had to do everything that she didn't think she'd ever do, so, that was a good start.
They ran in silence after that, Nezuko thought she might pass out multiple times.
Sorry Tanjiro, she thought, as Tanjiro was being thrown around on her back while she ran.
----
Nezuko collapsed on the doorstep of the Dojo, she had never had to run at a continuous pace like that ever.
"Please, Kamado, don't stop quite yet," Keizo smiled. "We're only here to drop off your brother."
"What?" She brought her head up to meet his eyes. "But I'd like him to stay with me."
"Don't worry, he'll be safe here. I just want to see how you do without him and to keep him safe from the sun and other demon slayers."
"Why are you helping me so much?" Nezuko asked, setting down the basket. Tanjiro quickly slithered out and rested his head on the ground, falling into a deep sleep.
She wasn't complaining, in no way was she doing that, but it did confuse her a bit to say the least.
Keizo hesitated a moment before answering. "My daughter has a dream that I want to fulfill."
She didn't know much about the older man, but she could tell she hit a sore spot, so she didn't press. She left Tanjiro in the Dojo and the two of them did more running.
"Now what?" Nezuko leaned on her knees trying to catch her breath.
"Now I want you to find a way down again, back to the Dojo. Preferably before morning," Keizo wasn't even breathing heavy.
"In the middle of the night?"
"Yes," with that he disappeared, Nezuko turned her head wildly, where did he go?
She shook her head and tried to focus on her objective, she only had to get back to the Dojo. She had never wished for Tanjiro's sense of smell more, but it was okay. She could kind of remember the way back down, of course it was different from coming up, but she thought she remembered the terrain well enough.
As she started to scale, she walked slowly and carefully. The farther down she got the better she got at seeing irregular bumps and ropes in the grass and around trees, she started to think she could really do this.
And suddenly, that confidence was stripped from her. What seemed to have been a slingshot shot a large pinecone at her, she stumbled and looked over at the area where the pinecone had come from.
She stumbled back and stepped on a rope, swinging her head in that direction. A log swung down and hit the side of her head. She crumbled to the ground holding her head. Thankfully the log wasn't large, it was just big enough to be firewood, but it still hurt.
She didn't think she was bleeding, but the dizziness didn't go away for a long time. She sat in the silent woods, waiting for her mind to clear.
Once that came, she jumped up and tried again. Nezuko had one job. Get down the mountain by morning. It should be easy.
Nezuko got hit by more traps than she could count. More logs swinging at her head, a few spiky pits and trip wires. But she was getting better and that was all that mattered to her.
