Kaiya's POV

I am currently on my way back to the Leaf Village along with the gennin team I was asked to help.

It was a simple escort mission for some lord's daughter or something. I don't know, to be honest I wasn't really paying attention. It was very easy. We only had a handful of bandits attack us on our journey to her home. The team I was with could've easily done this stupid c rank mission without me.

Now don't get me wrong I am happy to have gone on this mission. It got me away from my dad for a few days. He has been annoying me lately about making more friends my age. But I have Shikamaru and Choji, not to mention Neji and TenTen. And I suppose Lee as well though he always says we are eternal rivals just like my dad and Gai-sensei.

I see the gates of the village up ahead and sigh in relief. I may be happy to have gotten away from my dad for a bit but the team I was sent with gets old really fast.

"Great work team! So very youthful!" Gai-sensei says while having one hand on his hip and the other giving us a thumbs up.

"Yes Gai-sensei!" Lee cheers.

"How can the two of you deal with them all the time?" I ask Neji and TenTen.

"You get used to it." TenTen replies.

"I tend to ignore them most of the time." Neji says.

I nod my head. "I suppose that would help."

"Kaiya, my rival, we should have a race around the village in celebration of a job well done."

"No thanks Lee. I think I'm gonna just head over to Shikamaru's house and see what he is up too."

I walk through the gates and wave at the guards.

"Alright I will head over to give my report to the Hokage. The four of you are dismissed."

"Wait a minute!" One of the guards says. I think it was Izumo. "Lord Third told us that he wishes to speak with you upon your return Kaiya."

"Damn." I sigh. "Alright let's go Gai-sensei. We can't keep the old man waiting. See you later guys." I wave bye to the others and head to the tower that the Hokage's office is in.

As we are walking Gai-sensei is going on and on about how he needs to have another contest with my dad to break their tie or something. I was trying to take Neji's advice and ignore him but it's hard cause his voice is just so loud.

As we walk into the building I look at all the stairs and groan.

"You know it would be easier if you could use the teleportation jutsu. But since you can't yet we can see who will be the fastest to the top and use this as a training experience."

I start walking up the hundreds of stairs and look back at Gai-sensei as he gets ready to run up them. "I have been asking my dad to teach me how to do that but he always says that a little exercise won't kill me. Though I have come close to it a few times training with you and Lee." I mumble the last bit but I guess he heard me cause the next thing I know he laughs loudly then runs past me up the stairs.

I don't really care for competitions but I know that if I don't follow him then he will tell my dad I'm slacking off then demand I train nonstop for the next week. I groan loudly and start running up the stairs. I would rather have my hands tied behind my back and beaten to a pulp by Neji than have another grueling work out session with Gai and Lee.
