I groaned internally as Winston trotted over to our table. He was always breaking dress code; we weren't allowed to wear sweatshirts, because it got really hot in here sometimes, and it could also be a fire hazard. Long clothes, hot oil and open flame don't mix well. He was also wearing shoes that seemed both too expensive for working at the Shack, but also too expensive for him to afford. His mom probably bought them for him. Or he stole her card, again.

"Hey!" He said, dragging out the end of it. "Marlowe! How've you been?"

"Fine."

He put his hand on my shoulder, I brushed it off, he put it back on.

"Who's your friend?" He beamed at Dee, who I could tell was also uncomfortable by Winston.

"Winston, can you get us some waters or something?" I said through gritted teeth. He normally made me mildly uncomfortable and slightly pissed off. Currently, he was making me feel mildy uncomfortable and very pissed off.

I should probably get that checked out. Anger issues aren't a grest thing to deal with. To be fair, this kid was nagging on me, and I did nothing to garner it.

"I was just asking, god" he glared at me quickly and then just as quickly changed his expression when looking at Dee. "I'm Winston, by the way." His hand left my shoulder, and his arm snaked around Dee's shoulder. "You can ask me if you guys need anything." He told him with a wink.

I slammed my fist down onto the table, startling them both, and with a not-so-convincing smile said to Winston. "Waters, now, please.". I hadn't meant to be so forceful, but seeing him be touchy with Dee made me more upset than it probably should have.

Dee gently grabbed my hand, catching me off gaurd, and he patted my hand right above the stitching and brusing on my knuckels. "Hey," his green eyes soft and caring, he looked at me "It's okay." He smiled sweetly; I felt like melting putty in his hands.

Winston's eyes bugged out of his head. I don't know if he knew or not, but he definitely didn't like that he wasn't the first guy to bring a date here.

Dee turned to Winston, with a still gentle but considerably less kind expression. "Two waters and some fries if you have them."

Winstion gulped, still under fire from the daggers shooting out of my head, and nodded, quickly shuffling into the back.

"I'm sorry, he just pisses me off sometimes." I apologized.

He carefully squeezed my hand. "I can tell." He sighed "But thats okay, he's a kid, and a clearly spoiled one at that, they do that sometimes."

"Yea."

After a few minutes of us going over the menu, Lilly brought us our drinks and fries. She took our orders and went back into the kitchen.

"I'm kinda excited, actually, I've Never been on a date before." Dee nervously fidgeted with his hands.

"Really? You seem like a pro. Granted, I never have either."

"Huh. First time for everything then."

"Yea..." I thought for a minute "by the way, I never asked, but were are you guys from?" I asked drinking my water, thirsty.

Dee looked up at me, his facial expression said one thing, but behind his eyes I could tell whatever he was about to tell me was a lie. "Oh, up north a ways. We're from a small town off the coast of Rhode Island."

"Okay."

"Have you lived here your whole life?"

"Yeup." I took a sip from my drink, only to find it empty "I've never even left the state- well, actually back in highschool I did once or twice for sports but thats about it."
