11. Why

"Why did you come here?" As I lay in his arms, cradled and sheltered from the world.

"I like having you near me, makes me feel normal." He says drawing spirals on my back. His breath smelt of Jäger when he got into my room. I am hoping my parents do not just randomly burst into my room but I locked it just in case.

"Normal? What do you mean, you don't feel normal without me?" He takes a moment to find the words his head is throwing at his forehead.

"You help me feel, I am emotional around you, I like that, it is better than stoic numbness." I nod before I move to fetch my bonnet so I do not sleep without it. My mom braided my hair nicely, I would love to go to school with them still intact.

I fell asleep while talking to Kai, I expected to wake up with him gone but he is still here, sitting on my chair texting someone. I watch as his eyebrows furrow and his jaw clenches and relaxes, his nose creased and he rolls his eyes before noticing I am awake. His face relaxes and his lips turn to a small smile and his face somehow glows in the darkness.

"Morning Kitten, did I wake you?" I shake my head before getting off my bed and heading to the bathroom.

I decide to shower after peeing, I might as well get ready for school.

"Come on before they wake up," I say trying to get Kai out of my house. He is taking his time and I am dying because my African parents will kill us both if they found out.

"I need to meet your parents one of these days." He says as he gets into his car. He will be taking me to school but he is going to his house while I have breakfast and get my books ready.

"Are you sure you want to go to school?" My mother asks as I get into the kitchen wearing my uniform.

"Yes. I will be okay, do not worry mama bear." She shakes her head before handing me a plate of my breakfast.

"My job is to worry. Call me if it is too much." I nod while trying to eat as fast as possible. My dad leaves after I do so he can not drive me to school and that is why I walk.

"Bye Mama." Kiss on the cheek and out the door to Kai's car.

"You sure nothing is bothering you?" He asks as we drive to my school. I shake my head and he finally lets up the conversation. He parks outside the school.

"Why did you not go inside?" He turns his chest to face me.

"In case I am the reason you left school early yesterday. You could have called me. I would have come to fetch you." he is the sweetest.

"I wanted my mom. I will call you when I need you." I place my hand on his cheek before I plant a kiss on his lips.

"I am going to France for a month for work." He says after the kiss. A month is a long time.

"When are you leaving?" Hopefully no time soon.

"Tomorrow morning, so spend the night with me?"

"Okay, I will see you later. You really need to meet my parents so I can tell them that I am coming to your house and stop lying." He squeezes my thigh before taking my hand and kissing it.

There is a rumour that I am selling myself to Kaiser for money. It is absurd but what can I say, what more can I do, I can not fight the rumour there is no way to fight it. It was probably started by Kate or whoever she was talking to.

Walking in the halls I feel the stares and whispers but I do not mind them. I make my way to my first class to get away from the noise.

Sam is already there.

"Did you hear the news? I am Kai's special escort." He looks confused but connects the dots.

"His name is Kai and yes I heard the rumours. Do not take them seriously, they have nothing better to talk about." I nod before sitting next to him.

"Why are you in here instead of with your friends?" He is a jock and the jocks are busy playing some game.

"I needed a break, looks like I am not getting one." Softly I punch his bicep.

"I just can not wait until the day is over." He laughs before facing his body in my direction.

"Are you busy after school?" He asks swiftly.

"Yeah, going to Kai's place. Why?" Now that there is a guy in my life, I feel comfortable hanging out with Sam.

"Wanted to hang out, it's cool." He sounds dejected.

"I am free on Wednesday. " he smiles before talking

"Want to go somewhere and have lunch?" In a public space because I know Kai would not be comfortable with us hanging out at his house.

"Yeah. I will tell you where. Just need to decide where first" the bell rings and we make it to our designated seats and the class begins to fill with people.

After school, I called Kai to see whether he is picking me up or if I must walk and he asked me to walk and let myself in. He is busy working things out.

I walked into his quiet house and put music on before I fetched a bottle of vodka and snacks from the pantry and I watch videos until I hear the door jerk open.

"Kai?" Calling out to confirm who it is.

"Yeah, I'm coming let me freshen up." I do not see him as he makes his way upstairs.

He makes his way downstairs smelling like his shower wash and his hair is visible wet.

"You took a shower?" He nods before picking me from the couch and setting me on his thighs allowing me to straddle him. His fingers inside my shirt making their way, steadily to my nipples. His mouth and mine exchanging tongues and saliva. He moves his tongue out of my mouth and onto my neck leaving a trace of his saliva on my skin.
