Mikado shivered as he walked down the street in his sweater, wanting to get back to his house and into the arms of his beloved already. All he wanted to do was go and get the mail, so he only wore a thick sweater while thinking that his fire-prone magic would keep him warm from the inside.
But the more he kept walking, the more he realized that his magic wasn't working to protect and warm him as it should. The wizard was beginning to shiver more. Why was this happening, his magic should've been stronger after graduating Hope's Peak Academy!
Wrapping his arms around himself, he began to move quicker towards the mailbox, taking care to not slip on the thinly-formed ice on the sidewalk. He got to the metal boxes and took the key out of his pocket, bending down and opening his mailbox while his fingers grew colder. To his disappointment, there was no mail today, so he just closed his box and put his key back in his pocket.
Getting colder by the second as the sun fell, the wizard kept shivering and began growing frigid. Finally, the cold was too much to bear for him, so he quickly got his phone out from his pocket and texted his boyfriend Teruya.
hocus pocus: the weather seems to be getting colder now! i may need some help, so come dressed warmly... i'm already frozen
old town road: where are you?
old town road: i'll even bring you your coat to wear
old town road: seriously, where are you...
old town road: are you really frozen???
Mikado couldn't answer, for even his fingers were too cold. He put his phone back in his pocket and shuffled off to the side of the sidewalk to wait for Teruya to find him and bring him back home.
About five minutes later, Teruya came down the street and spotted Mikado shivering with a pitiful look. The merchant immediately hurried over with Mikado's coat in his hands, and putting it on the wizard was the first thing that he did. "God, you really ARE frozen! Seriously, why didn't you go out without your coat?" Teruya questioned.
"I-I thought my...my m-magic would warm me..." Mikado continued shaking as he was bundled up. The talker man simply shook his head, then leaned down and lightly kissed the mage's cold nose. When he tried to get Mikado to start walking home, the wizard added "I...I don't think I c-can move...m-my lack of magic protecting me...fire mages d-don't do well in c-cold..."
With a sigh, Teruya scooped up the shivering blonde into a bridal carry and began walking back home. 'What would this bastard do without me?' Teruya thought, noticing how Mikado cuddled up to his warm chest.
On the contrary, the wizard blushed more at the other man's actions, thinking 'There's no way Teruya won't be by my side.' Mikado was carried all the way back to the house they shared post-graduation.
When they arrived inside, Teruya closed and locked the door before helping Mikado get his coat off. "Sunshine, you should change into clothes that aren't so damp, maybe some warmer ones. You don't want to catch a cold." He advised with a gentle smile.
Mikado quietly obliged and switched his clothes to a dark blue sweater and some cozier pants before going back to the living room. He was swaddled with blankets by Teruya before he knew it, and though he was still cold when the merchant sat down on the couch beside him, he didn't ask for anything more.
Even as he bundled the blankets around himself, the blonde wasn't warm enough to feel his magic growing and warming him further. He continued shivering as Teruya quietly took notice of his unhappy state. The merchant knew from experience that even though Mikado was incredibly clingy, he only asked for attention instead of actual items, and being given things usually kept him quiet, even if he wanted more.
From the signs in front of him, Teruya guessed that Mikado was still cold but didn't want to ask the merchant to do anything like cuddling. This meant that he would have to instigate it himself, which would bring Mikado over.
"Maybe I should've gone out to get the mail instead, I've had the heating running all day while I worked, both chores and at Otorimart." The merchant complained. "Hey, maybe your body temperature and balance out mine. Why don't you grab your blankets and come over here?"
As predicted, Mikado immediately brought his blankets over for cuddling when given permission through a direct request. The wizard wrapped his smaller body around the merchant's side while Teruya arranged the blankets around him. As Mikado settled his head on the man's chest and closed his eyes, Teruya wrapped an arm around him and turned on the TV to watch a movie with the other hand.
The snow fell outside, but Teruya held the sleeping wizard as he continued to watch an old movie. He wouldn't have it any other way, and he was sure that Mikado would agree.
