"We need help." Laynie shouted as we burst through the doors for the Den.
Kelly came running out of the back room, her eyes widened at the sight of me. she rushed to my side and helped Laynie get me into one of the booths.
"Where did you find him?" She asked as she looked me over.
"He came out the back of the old Hastings farm, I almost missed him, if I hadn't done a double take at the naked guy in my rear-view he might have just died in the road. What the fuck is going on Kel?"
Kelly looked me in the eye, knowing just as well as I did that Laynie wasn't going to let this go.
"Let me get Michael, he will have to be the one to explain."
While Kelly was Gone I noticed that the windows of the Den were still boarded up, I had been in and out of conscious so much that I wasn't sure how long I had been gone. Laynie Got up from where she had been sitting and began to pace in front of me. "You're gonna ware a hole in the floor like that, Michaels gonna be pissed enough about the windows, best not to add to the mess." I said Jokingly.
Laynie shot me a glare that said she wasn't in the mood for my jokes. I stood up and made my way towards the bar, using the tables to hold myself up. once I reached the bar, I Pulled out two glasses and a bottle of Grey goose. Laynie pulled up a stool and sat across from where I was stood. I poured us both a large double then proceeded to knock it back. The sting of the whiskey was brutal, but welcome as it slid slow and warm down my ragged throat. "Dean fired me." She said as she sat swirling the glass of whiskey under her nose.
"What! Why?"
"When they showed up and took my statement, Michael asked me to leave out the part about you being taken, said it was Club business. Like an idiot, I listened. Dean knew I was lying about something, and said that I was interfering with a criminal investigation. You can't be a cop if you don't follow the law! I think that's how he put it." she said knocking back her drink, then sliding the glass towards me for another.
"Shit I'm sorry." I replied, pouring the drink and sliding it back.
"Don't be, its done, and you're alive. Guess it could be worse." She said sounding a little bitter as she knocked back the second.
I couldn't blame her, she loved being a cop, even if her boss was an ass.
As the conversation ended, Kelly walked in followed by Michael. Kelly threw some fresh clothes onto the bar, along with my Cut. Michael picked me up in a bear hug, and I suddenly realised just how naked I was. After a second or two, he put me down, and I got dressed.
"I knew they couldn't kill you!" He said smiling like a proud dad who just watched his kid hit their first home run.
"They weren't exactly gentle though." I said looking at my hands, that still had a small hole in them.
"What happened?" Kelly asked.
I opened my mouth to start telling the story, when Laynie spoke up.
"No! I'm not doing this shit any more, you tell me what's going on, right now!"
The three of us looked at each other, then Michael nodded at Kelly who moved towards the front door, sliding a large bolt into place, locking us in. then Michael addressed Laynie directly.
"If we tell you this, then your in, like all the way in, and there is no going back!" he said, his eyes locked on hers.
"Ok?" she said sounding a little confused.
Then Kelly stepped in.
"Seriously Laynie, if you react poorly, then we may be forced to do the same." She said in a tone that begged to be understood.
"Shit, just tell me." Laynie said, pushing through the tension the others had created.
Michael took a deep breath.
"Laynie, We're Werewolves." he said, waiting for the shock to set in.
She looked from Michael, to me, then Kelly and then back to Michael.
"Fuck you, I lied for you! It cost me my job. Then you try to feed me this bullshit." she yelled getting up from her seat and turning toward the doors.
Kelly blocked her path to stop her from leaving. Then she looked over her shoulder, and Michael nodded in confirmation. Kelly then began unbuttoning her Cut, which she usually wore with nothing underneath. She took it off and dropped it on a nearby chair. Stood facing a confused Laynie, who was staring directly at Kelly's bare chest. "Sorry, I don't want to ruin my Cut." she said, rolling her neck, as if in preparation for something.
Laynie looked her in the eyes confused, that was when it happened. Kelly let her Wolf grow out of her. I smiled at the transformation, Every turn was different, not hers, Kelly's was always smooth, almost beautiful, like letting her hair down. She was small for a Wolf but still much larger than a regular human, her eyes were crystal blue and her fur was like golden, warm sand. Laynie quickly stepped backwards and stumbled in to a table, putting her arms back to stop herself. Kelly took a step towards her and Laynie flinched. Michael laughed a little at her, which caused her to snap her head in his direction, frightened but somehow fierce.
She looked back to the immediate threat in front of her, then Kelly took a knee and lowered her head, then whined a little. "Ah the puppy defence." Michael said nodding his head approvingly.
Laynie's posture slowly relaxed, and she reached out a hand towards Kelly, then proceeded to run her fingers through Kelly's sandy coloured fur.
"Holy shit, you're Werewolves." Laynie said, dropping down into a chair with a light thud.
Kelly pulled the wolf back into her self, then picked up her cut and covered her chest. The black leggings she had been wearing were torn, and loose but still mostly intact.
"You ok?" she said taking a knee in front of Laynie again.
Laynie nodded, though it was obvious she was still processing the whole ordeal. While we stood quietly, giving her the moment she needed, Bonnie and Scout came bursting through the back door. Bonnie's eyes locked on me. she rushed forward bringing me into a hug almost as tight as Michael's. She kissed the side of my face softly, and I could feel the tears as they fell off of her face and onto mine.
She stepped back to look me over, then frowned looking at my face, and I suddenly remembered the huge bruise that must be there after Dolton had hit me. Bonnie stepped aside, and Scout moved forward, the relief in his eyes was clear as we bumped fists, and a hitch caught in my throat as I thought about all of the things I almost lost.
"So, I think it's time you tell us what happened." Michael said looking around the room.
"What about the rest of the pack?" I asked concerned.
"Everyone's fine, Most of them are out looking for you actually. I think a few of them are sleeping." Michael said reassuringly.
I nodded, the told them about how Lucian was the one who had ordered my kidnapping, and that Dolton and Jimmy were with him, and about the humans he had working for him. About how Dolton had tortured me and about killing Jimmy during my escape. They were silent for a while, until Michael asked.
"Did they say why they wanted you in the first place?"
I nodded, then told him about my Father, about his pack, and how he had been watching over me, until Lucian killed him. While I told the story, Michaels breathing got increasingly heavy, right up until the moment I told him about my Fathers death.
"NO!" He screamed out, so loud you could hear the wolf inside reaching out. He brought both of his fists down onto the bar, smashing a large chunk out of the rear side of the large piece of solid oak. Then he dropped to his knees. We quickly rushed to the side of our Alpha. I put my hand on his shoulder, shocked to see such a display of raw emotion from the old wolf. He lifted his head and his eye's met mine. They were filled with tears and sorrow, but deep down there was a rage burning, like a fire that might never go out.
Then he spoke with a crack in his voice.
"We need to talk."
