Jiaqi was standing outside the principal's door the next morning, waiting to knock. He just couldn't get himself to do it. He continued to wait.
'Hey, what're you doing there?' Chengxin asked him as he walked into class. 'You need to meet the principal.'
'I think so.' Jiaqi answered then turned around. 'But I don't know.'
'You're being weird,' Chengxin laughed. 'Maybe you'll think about whether you really need to meet the principal or not during class.'
'Yeah...good idea...'
Jiaqi walked to class with his friend, his mind full of thoughts. Of course he wanted the truth to be known, but he wasn't sure if he wanted the impact that would fall on Ava.
He walked into the class full of chatter from the students as they waited for classes to begin.
'Hey Chengxin!' Yaowen greeted excitedly, and Chengxin joined them while Jiaqi walked to the back.
He took his usual seat and looked at his old friends. He was going to have them all back when the truth was revealed. He was once again going to be close to them and not feel alone in the school. Yaowen wouldn't be mad at him again and say nasty things to him.
He was going to get his old life back...but he wondered if it was worth it.
Usually he wouldn't be so concerned, but he had learned that he valued Ava more than he knew. She was his first friend after everything that had happened, so she meant something to him than the average friend would.
Besides, he had been vindicated by the principal because of how he knew his dad, he wondered if Ava was going to be vindicated as well. Chances were quite low.
He didn't know what choice to make, but he knew he didn't want to hurt Ava.
...
During lunch time, Jiaqi had received his food and went to take a seat on a different table somewhere near the corner of the room. The menu on this particular day was good, but the food just didn't taste very appetizing to Jiaqi. But of course that was expected on a day where he felt angry.
As he continued to eat, he saw someone join him, it was Evelyn.
'Hey handsome, I don't think you should sit alone.' she commented. 'Are you sad?'
'I don't want to talk to you.' he answered harshly, worse than he had intended to.
'Why are you so cold?' she asked him. 'I'm not a bad person you know. Or did Ava say that?'
'No.' his eyes wandered to the table where he usually sat with Ava, then around the entire room. He turned to Evelyn. 'Where's Ava?'
'She's not having lunch today, she said she's not in a very good mood.'
Jiaqi sighed then nodded.
'So did you tell the principal? What did he say?' she asked him almost excitedly.
'Hey don't wish destruction on your sister.'
'My sister is the one who almost made you lose your life remember? You don't have to feel sorry for her. She deserves whatever is coming for her. So what did the principal say?'
'I didn't tell him yet.' he admitted.
'Why!? Well if you don't tell him I will...'
'Don't you dare! This is my issue and I decide when it comes out.'
Evelyn folded her arms. 'Why would you feel bad for someone like Ava?'
'Because she was my friend. I can't just do this to her.' he took his cellphone out of his pocket and checked the screen. 'And maybe I don't want to do this to her. Maybe it was just a mistake.'
