*Kiara's POV*

Have you ever thought back to how you were awaiting the new year and when that 'new year' is coming to an end, you just don't know what to think? Well, I have, countless times. Waiting for the new year, hoping it would be better than the last year but let's just say that never happened but just kept getting worse every single day. Coming to a house full of chores to keep doing and to two abusive men who in reality are my family. Ironic isn't it?

It was yet again another torturous night. I was walking out of the restaurant and on my way to the bus station. The sky was a dark purple, almost black with a few stars sticking around. When I hear the bus coming to a halt I rush towards it and get a window seat, thankfully. I pay for my ticket and sit back leaning my head on the window just staring at the moving vehicles with the few buildings in between.

While walking back home, I prayed all the way hoping my dad and brother weren't there yet. I took a deep breath, preparing myself for whoever I'm going to be seeing behind the door and turned the door knob to be invited with no one. I let out a breath of relief and rushed upstairs to my room. I pulled my old suitcase from under my bed and dumped most of my clothes in it along with all my necessities and a couple pairs of converse and sandals.

Once my room was somewhat empty I stepped out of it slowly walking downstairs just to hear the all so familiar voice of my drunk father. It was too late to rush upstairs now. He was at the dining table that's right in front of me.

"Where do you think you're going?" He gulped down half the beer bottle and looked at me with disgust.

"I'm leaving, dad" I simply stated the truth. To my surprise he started laughing so loud. I just stood there trying to come up with a mind map to walk out that door as quickly as I could. Little did I know, I was soon grabbed by the wrist and held by my father's hand against him.

"Let me go!" I managed to scream despite being held by my neck.

"You wish, you little twat!" He screamed and I held my breath at the smell of whatever liquor he had drunk. "Who do you think you are to just walk out whenever you want to?!" He screamed, making me flinch despite being in this position countless times.

I took a breath and closed my eyes as I did what I had to if I had to get away from this house. He yelled, falling on the floor and I took that as my cue to leave the house.

"Kiara! If you walk out that door, you have no idea what you're asking for!!" My 'father' yelled from the house as I walked closer to the front door.

"Bye, Dad" I could barely hear my voice as I twisted the door knob open and ran for my life. I ran down the street as fast as my feet could take me to the bus station. I can't believe I'm actually doing this. Why couldn't I do this years ago? Oh, I know why. I was trapped and scared of what would happen if I did but now, that's the only way out of that hellhole.

I got myself to stop a cab from passing me and quickly got in and exhaled a deep breath.

"Where to, ma'am?" the cab driver asked.

"Um. Is there a hotel somewhere?" I asked bluntly, realising how that would have sounded. I don't even know if there's a hotel nearby. Thankfully the cab driver kept quiet and drove off.
